A July 2003 trip to San Diego by desertgoddess

Quote: Solana Beach is a great place to stay. Its not big like San Diego and has its own "surfer" character. San Diego was less than 20 or 30 minutes (on a non-traffic day). It sits along the "Old" Highway 1 and has many other communities next door. You can travel along Highway 1 to Del Mar and LaJolla. A great place to take it easy and enjoy the scenic Pacific Ocean views and beaches.

Driving isn't bad (unless you go during the horse racing season, you will come across traffic on the main street Via De Valle).

Older resort, but very clean with modern and comfortable furniture and applicances. The only drawback was that the parking was not adequate for guests. Much of the front parking lot was used for valet parking for the nearby restaurant. Isn't a lot to do if you have children. I brought my 14-year-old daughter and 11-year-old niece. They played ping pong and swam. That was the extent of the activities. Because Solana Beach is so close to the beach (less than a mile), we spent a lot of time checking the different beaches out.
