Cross the Cooper River Bridges over the Charleston Harbor and you are in Mt. Pleasant. Visit historic Patriots Point home of WWll aircraft carrier Yorktown and Naval/Maritime museum. Ferry out to Fort Sumter National Monument or visit Boone Plantation National Historic Site.

The room had two double beds, with hairdryers, iron/ironing board, coffee maker, pay-per-view movies, Super Nintendo, voice mail, and electronic door locks. There is a restaurant/lounge and gift shop also. If you have time, an outdoor pool and fitness center. This is a beautiful five-story hotel over the Bridge from Charleston and 1 mile from Patriots Point/USS Yorktown.

National Park Service rangers present history talks. A museum displays relics from the fort. Fort Sumter, a brick fortication built 1829-60 on a man-made island in Charleston Harbor, is accessible only by boat. On April 12, 1861, Confederate troops directed the opening shots of the Cival War against Fort Sumter, and, after a two-day bombardment, the small Union garrison surrendered.

The tour traces the history to a 1681 land grant to Major John Boone. Originally a cotton plantation, it also produced bricks and tiles. Original buildings include the circular smokehouse, the lime and oyster shell(tabby) foundation of the dock and nine brick slave cabins. The mansion was rebuilt in 1935 using bricks, woodwork and flooring from the earlier house. One of the most impressive features is a half-mile entry drive draped with moss-covered oaks planted in 1743. Formal gardens overflow with roses, camellias, and azaleas. There are homemade Southern specialties at the Plantation Kitchen Restaurant. You will also see horses grazing in paddocks. A Southern belle takes you on a guided tour of the first floor of the mansion, describing the home's antique furnishings.

Dining/Shopping

Experience

There are many local restaurants (seafood, Italian, steaks/ribs, Japanese), plus national chains like TGI Friday's,Outback, Ryan's, Applebees, Tbonz. The Town Center Mall and Seaside Farm Development provide ample shopping including outlet stores, national chains, grocery, and local shops. Because the way developers designed this town, everything is low and behind trees, so you can easily pass a place you may be looking for. This adds to the beauty of the town.
