Quote: Favorate restaurant discussions for Nova Scotia. Obviously we had a wonderful time eating! Wonderful food and incredible scenery! Not crowded, I guess they don't have a big p.r. dept. Remember Canadian Dollars are worth less than US Dollars. Restaurant prices are excellent.

This is an additional reference to Cooper's Inn as I have it in another journal. I just don't want you to miss it! It's that good! What a treat! The wine list isn't long, but it is very good and the prices are very reasonable for very nice wines. Cooper's Inn is way up on the top of restaurants in the whole world. How's that for an opinion?

This tiny ice cream shop is hardly much bigger than it's freezer, but the ice cream is great. No seating. You take your ice cream and keep walking along the harbour. Of course, we were crazy for almost all Canadian ice cream. Really good stuff.

This tiny cafe is supurb! While you are waiting for your table, you will enjoy shopping in the gift shop which has many fine 'made in Canada' items. The small dining room is a tight fit for so many tables. There is patio dining in fine weather. The food! Oh, my in tiny Shelbourne 2 of the finest restaurants in North America. We dined there twice in 4 days. I had pasta dishes, the others seafood. Everything was top class. The desserts were beautiful and tasted as good as they looked. Miracles come out of the tiny kitchen. The aromas are grand! The pastas and coffees smelled so good! Closed in the 'dead' of winter. Telephone ahead. Shelbourne is such total pleasure for the visitor interested in...Read More

Two pretty easy walking tours nearby each other. Telephone (902) 875-3219. However upstairs areas are not handicapped accessible. Both have small souvenir shops but certainly no high pressure selling going on. We had a lot of fun. I'll be looking at dories for the rest of my life. Once you understand how they are made, you know what to look for in quality.

Shelbourne was home to hundreds of Torries (Empire Loyalists) who left our original 13 colonies in order to show their support for King George and survive. The town is in a perfect location for beauty and peace and quiet. 'Doers and Dreamers' (for a free copy and great map of Nova Scotia telephone 800-565-0000) lists many places to stay and most looked very good to us although our favorate is the Cooper's Inn.

Shelbourne's beautiful harbour

Such a lovely place, it makes sense that it was the setting for the movie 'The Scarlett Letter' with Demi Moore. Rent a copy just to see the fabulous scenery! Often the harbour has beautiful sail boats that have come up from the Caribbean for a nice, cool summer. Go out of your way to get to Shelbourne. It's well worth the effort. One of the finest natural small boat harbours I've ever seen. A safe haven in rough weather. Of course in colonial days, the largest ships in the realm could come in, but they were tiny by modern standards.

This isn't an easy subject to bring up, but all travelers know that finding a clean rest room, wash room, what ever you want to call it is sometimes impossible. Nova Scotia is so clean in all areas, but most expecially clean rest rooms that it adds to the pleasure of your trip! Thank you Nova Scotia! Your tidy ways are appreciated.
