Pisa

A July 2003 trip to Pisa by kilroy was here

When describing Pisa, I think Disneyworld. Hordes of tourists and souvenirs at prices that only tourists unfamiliar with the currency would pay is everywhere! The only thing really missing is the rides and perhaps Mickey Mouse. But apart from all of that, this is a beautiful city that deserves a few days discovering the channels and alleys...and of course its most famous wonder.

Overview

It doesn't matter how many pictures you've seen of The Leaning Tower. Nothing prepares you for the surreal sight of this architectural blunder, as you stand there wondering alongside thousands of other tourists, "How on God's green earth can it still be standing?!?!". It has finally been openend again for the public and has some amazing views of the city.

Quick Tips:

I made the mistake of travelling in July. If you do, just remember the sun is intense and the heat is pressing!

Best Way To Get Around:

This is a very compact old maritime city, with all its channels and narrow streets. Walk and see what is one of Tuscany's finest big cities. Taxi (10€) or bus (.80€) from the airport to the city centre. Don't even contemplate renting a car if going downtown!!!
This is beautiful four-star hotel in the heart of Pisa, only 50 meters from the famous Leaning Tower. A lot of the rooms even have views of it. Hardwood floors and big spacious bathrooms.

The continental breakfast served was to say the least super--parma ham, cheese, and everything else that you come to Tuscany looking for. During our week in Tuscany, I can honestly say that the best coffee (and we had a lot of coffee) served was at this hotel!

The 'official' high season price is 150-200 euro. However, we found an excellent deal on this website. For our room we paid 88 euro for a double room in absolute high season!
