Lake Tahoe

Overview

Quote:
Lake Tahoe is one of the most amazing places in the world. I live approximately three hours away, so we take quite a few weekend trips up there on bonus time. I am constantly amazed by the beauty of the area and the variety of things to do. Quick Tips: I personally enjoy visiting in the spring or fall to avoid the summer crowds. It does tend to get crowded, and there is only a single road around the lake, so sometimes you will get really backed up in traffic (although you have good scenery to look at). It gets so crowded on holiday weekends that it's really not worth going unless you have a resort near the lake and plan on just staying at the resort. Forget trying to drive around!Best W...Read More

Best Things Nearby:The lake!!! Too beautiful for words! Hiking, biking, boating, skiing, kayaking, rafting, fine dining, casinos, shows, beautiful scenery, and much more!Best Things About the Resort:The best thing is that you are right near the lake and can just walk down to enjoy the beach (a short walk - maybe 5 minutes). Resort Experience:It has the feel of a very nice lodge in the mountains. We went up with friends, and the two-bedroom units (two bedroom/two bath) afford complete privacy for both parties. There are even two kitchen areas (one is a kitchenette and one a full kitchen). They have a restaurant on site and many within walking distance. There...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Heavenly valley ski resort (across the street) and the lake (about a mile away).Best Things About the Resort:For skiers, you can walk to the slopes. For everyone else, you are very close to the lake without out being in the middle of everything. It's about a mile or two from the lake and the heart of South Lake Tahoe, yet in beautiful, peaceful, wooded souroundings.Resort Experience:This is not a luxurious resort, but it has its own character and charm. The rooms are definitely interesting and have a unique layout. There isn't really a kitchen area, more of a wet bar with a microwave, small fridge, and little bit of storage (no utensil...Read More

A great healthy and inexpensive place for breakfast and lunch. They are a bagel/coffee shop and bakery. You can get pastries, sweets, loaves of bread, bagels, sandwiches, coffee, and smoothies. All the bakery items are made on site and are very yummy. It has a nice, open, cheery environment and plenty of seating. They also have local artwork displayed for sale on the walls. We went there a couple of times for breakfast and lunch and were always happy with our meals.

We went to The Beacon for an early dinner and ate on the deck while overlooking the lake. I had the most wonderful macadamia crusted salmon ever!

After dinner, we strolled along the lake shore and walked through the beautiful Camp Richardson resort while the sun was setting. It was a perfect evening!

This is the brunch buffet at the top of Harrah's and it has a breathtaking view of the lake and South Lake Tahoe. The food is delicious, however, it's $20 per person.

Attraction | "Heavnely Valley Gondola"

What a view!!! The ride up on Heavenly Valley Gondola is not scary at all. I was a little apprehensive to go (I don't like heights), but I was fine. We were a little shocked at the price ($20 per person), but afterwards, we all agreed that it was worth it. You can find a coupon in the travel guides for $3 off per person. While we were up there, we kept getting buzzed by a glider plane. It was completely silent and would suddenly woosh right over us with the pilot waving. For the price you pay, only go up on a clear and sunny day.

"This state of the art 37,000 square feet indoor official NHL ice surface has just opened in South Lake Tahoe! The ice rink offers skating lessons, full service pro shop/rentals, and daily public skating sessions." -from "Lake Tahoe Vacation Guide" website. This is a very large rink and was not crowded at all when we were there. The skating staff was very friendly and helpful. You can get in for a discounted price after 9pm (9 to 10:30pm). This was more than plenty of time to skate, especially if your feet and muscles aren't used to it. We got to partake in an organized game that was fun for all ages and experience levels. http://www.recreationintahoe.com/sltrecice.asp 530/54...Read More
