Cabo is one of the few places in the world where the desert juts to the edge of the ocean, which means there are fantastic vistas and days on end of hot, sunny weather. I spent a great week here with my family and boyfriend.

Chilling in Cabo

Overview

The most obvious feature of Cabo San Lucas is its beach, which you suddenly hit after driving through miles of cacti and desert from the nearby airport. The side of Cabo on the Sea of Cortez is calmer and less windy than the Pacific side around the tip of the Baja Penninsula, where we stayed. Most of our sun time was spent by the pool, which did make it more convenient for the waiters who brought us our late-afternoon margaritas.

Quick Tips:

Go whale watching if you get the chance. And if you decide to go four-wheeling in the desert, you might want to go in a smaller group so the guide can focus on your safety. While we planned to go hiking in the desert, it was just a wee bit hot for that.

Best Way To Get Around:

If you're staying in downtown Cabo san Lucas, you can probably get away with walking or taking cabs. If you're staying farther away in one of the more far-flung resorts, having a car will make your stay easier, but many resorts do have shuttles that go into town.
The first thing I noticed about this resort was the wind, which can be significant. Then I took in the polished surroundings, the flamingos wading in a pond near the tennis courts and the great view from the balcony. The main pool is at the bottom of the hill and includes a wet bar, but the wind may make in-pool pina coladas more effort than they're worth. There is a glass wall protecting the hot tub from the wind, but heavy breezes were still a nuisance during three out of the six days we were there. On the days it wasn't too windy, the place was wonderful and secluded. It is brand new, so the resort is in pristine condition and there is a veritable army of workers to ferry you to and from various buildings in little carts. It is built into a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, so the views are magnificent.

Our condo was huge: two enormous bedrooms, one with two queen beds, and a living room and kitchen that made this New Yorker very jealous. The master bedroom had a Jacuzzi tub, while the guest bedroom had a walk-in shower. The condo had three TVs –- one in each room -– in case you can’t live without CNN. A balcony ran the length of the condo.

The resort even included free five-minute back and neck massages by the pool. Lovely. It has its own private beach, tennis courts, multiple pools, exercise facility and restaurants. It is about a 10-minute drive from town, however, so be prepared to travel a bit to go out for meals or on excursions. This resort is both a hotel and a timeshare. I would highly recommend it, if it weren't for the occasional strong winds. That said, we went in March and I believe it is calmer other times of the year.
