Delta Fredericton

Hotel | "Sheraton Fredericton"

It's a great hotel, but splurge and get the riverview room. The hotel backs on to the Saint John River and the view is beautiful. The higher the floor the better.

The pool is nice, but tends to get overrun with kids between 9am and noon. The restaurant is ok, but if you're there during the summer, eat out on the patio (same chef, same food, half the price . . . I don't know why)

El Burrito Loco

This is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Not quite as pretty from the outside, but the food more than makes up for it. They've been listed three or four times in "Where to Eat in Canada". Carlos (the owner) is from Puerto Vallarta, and does all of his own cooking, so the restaurant doesn't really have a set closing time -- usually between 8:30 and 9pm though. The inside is all decorated with things they have brought with them from Puerto Vallarta and they have a gift shop downstairs. Dinner for 4 usually runs 75-80$ CDN. The service is fairly quick, and the food is to die for. In the summer they have a patio out front on King Street, but if you're there in the winter, it might be...Read More

Mactaquac is a provincial park located about 15 minutes outside Fredericton on Route 105 (the old Trans Canada Hwy). It is a nice clean beach on the Mactaquac Head Pond. The water is usually fairly warm and very clean.

They have campsites there for around $20 per night. There is also fishing and walking trails. It's a great spot because it's very quiet, but still only 15 minutes from town, and all the fun stuff that comes with it.

Bucket Club/Hartt Island

Attraction | "Bucket Club / Hartt Island"

This seems to be more of a local attraction than a tourist attraction. Ironically enough, that makes it perfect for touists -- rarely crowded and not overly expensive.

The Bucket Club (or Hartt Island, depending on whether you're talking to a local or the tourism bureau clerk) has mini golf, waterslides, and a driving range. They also have a huge are for RVs and a small campground. You can also rent kayaks and canoes and head out on the Saint John River.

Everything is very reasonably priced and you can usually get in full afternoon of mini golf and waterslides for around C$18 per person.

The location isn't so precise . . . the festival takes up most of downtown. There are usually more than 20 stages set up in different locations, and between 150 and 175 groups and artists come in for the festival. All vehicle traffic basically stops downtown. Fredricton is a very friendly place, and if you want to meet most of them, this is the time to be here. This year, the festival is from Sept 10th to 14th. Tickets went on sale July 19 and can be purchased by calling 1-888-622-5837. For one event, tickets are usually between $8 and $15. The festival's webiste is at the end of the entry and they have full listings/schedules there. Cheers! ...Read More
