Overview

Quote:
One of the best things always said about St. Petersburg are the summer white nights. I only experienced a few weeks of them and I wish I had stayed the summer.

Quick Tips:

Stay with a host family if possible, or somehow get inside the homes of the locals.

Best Way To Get Around:

Be prepared to walk a lot and learn the public transportation system: metro, buses and tram.

Winter Palace/State Hermitage Museum

Attraction | "Hermitage"

Quote:
The Hermitage is truly the most amazing museum I have ever been to. Put on strong walking shoes and prepare to spend the day. It's full of Russian art and artifacts throughout the ages and recreates the Winter Palace that the tsars and their families lived in up until the Russian Revolution.

Palace Embankment, On The Neva River
St. Petersburg, Russia

Quote:
Start off on at the corner of Fontanka and Nevsky Prospect and follow the Neva River running away from downtown. Enjoy views of ancient churches and the beautiful architecture of Peter the Great's time. It's a relatively flat course and, providing there wasn't just a huge snowstorm, ample sidewalk room for a decent morning run.
