We didn't know what to expect when we signed up for the "Circle Island Tour"! By the time it was over, six hours later, we had an experience that we won't forget. Eight of us adults piled in the back of the Landrover and our 11 year old son sat up front with our Tahitian driver/guide. The driver took us around the island stopping off at the abandoned set from the Marlon Brando movie "Mutiny on the Bounty", a tropical juice and liqueur factory, an abandoned native Tahitian religious site, a modern Protestant church, a viewpoint near the top of the centre of the island, a mountainside waterfall high up on the mountain, and a black pearl centre. The view from Belvedere Viewpoint of Opunohu Bay, Mt. Rotui, and Cook's Bay was spectacular. The samples of tropical juices and liqueurs were delicious. The juice factory makes the best grapefruit juice that I have ever tasted, better than Florida grapefruit juice. The black pearls were beautiful to see. It was exciting and challenging to find a matching couple for a set of earrings.
The trek up the mountainside to see the waterfall was a challenge as the trail was muddy and slippery. By the time we arrived back at the Club Bali Hai resort we knew that we had been on a once in lifetime sight seeing tour.
