Every minute on this vacation was a highlight. For beach goers and sun worshippers, this is the place to go. What we were told about the white sands and emerald waters of Destin, Florida was not a lie. The sand is like white baby powder and the emerald waters are so beautiful that pictures don’t do them justice. The weather was on our side for most of the week. But it did shower on us once while we were on the beach but nobody there even bothered to move. You know what they say about the weather in Florida: "If you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes." Anyway we got lots of sun. There are plenty of places to shop: Silver Sands Factory Stores, Super Wal-Mart, Bayto...Read More

Best Things Nearby:You are just a short drive from a super Wal-mart, which is clean and well stocked, and well priced for your grocery and shopping needs. If you are looking for a place to eat, go no farther. Destin has every type of food you can imagine: AJ’s Seafood & Oyster bar, Hog’s Breath Cafe, ice cream shops, Chick-fil-a, TGI Fridays, Outback Steakhouse, Pompano Joe’s Seafood House, Applebee’s, and a lot of local seafood restaurants. There are plenty of places to shop, Silver Sands Factory Stores, Super Wal-Mart, Baytown Wharf to mention a few. The Track is real popular with the bumper boats and the go-carts. So there is something for everyone. ...Read More

We went on a bike tour and stopped here for lunch. Pompano Joe's is a great place for seafood. The windows are boards that open up over your head and you can hear the waves and smell the salt air while eating your meal. I had a popcorn shrimp sandwich -- I have never had one and I did not know how they were going to make a sandwich out of popcorn shrimp. They put a lot of shrimp on a bun and it was so delicious. Here are a few things from the menu Appetizers: Coral Reef Nachos and Reggae Rolls Soups & Salads: Chicken Caesar Salad Seafood Sandwiches: Fried Oyster, Fried Mahi Mahi, Amberjack, Grouper, Shrimp, Tuna and Crab Cake Seafood Selec...Read More

Southern Star is a large boat that has three levels. The top level has bench seats arranged church-style for a good view on both sides of the boat. The middle level has a bench seat that goes all the way around the outer edge of the boat and a concession stand in the middle section of the boat where you can buy hot dogs, soda, chips, and candy bars. The lower level of the boat has glass panels in it so you can see what is under the boat. On the day we went out, the water was rough in the Gulf so the captain stayed in the sound. We did not have a very good first time trip. The water was dark and all we got to see were a few fins come out of the water. You really had to be looking in the right pla...Read More

The white sands on the beach was so clean it felt like you were walking in baby powder. The water was the prettiest emerald green.

The locals and the visitors that come every year say that the water is usually calm and clear. But this week there was a lot of seaweed floating in the water and the water was a little rougher then normal because of some storms out in the Gulf the week before we were there.
