There are many things one can do in Helsinki if one has an open mind -- walks by the sea, eating in great restaurants, (central being both a relatively cheap and excellent place to dine with an extensive range of food from Finnish classics to French cuisine). The nightlife of Helsinki is also a thing to mention as it is quite extensive with something suiting all tastes -- pop, rock, heavy metal, jazz, etc. Also, there is plenty of nature to enjoy in and around Helsinki, with the city center's parks and the woods in the suburbs.Quick Tips: People in Helsinki speak relatively good English, so there is no particular language barrier such as there might be when travelling to more countrysideish p...Read More

Kynsilaukka Garlic

A wonderful and very atmospheric place with a gorgeous scent of garlic wafting around. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves garlic with a passion. The waiters were all great and very attentive, the food mind-blowing, and there were some very fascinating things to try, such as the garlic jam (an acquired taste)! Snails being my favourite dish, I would have to admit that here I certainly had some of the best snails I've ever tasted in Finland (other great places for this particular food are Central and Simonkenttä), sizzling in a hot garlic sauce -- these were the highlight of the evening. I just wish they'd give up on the tradition of "must have six snails" and dish out a few more. A...Read More

Linnanmäki Amusement Park

Attraction | "Linnanmäki"

Packed full of chattering, excited, happy (and occasionally greenish-tinged) people, full of the wonderful smell of cotton candy, happy screams fill the sky, the sun shines (hopefully), and a light breeze cools your skin . . . These are the memories that I have of this place. Definitely worth a daytrip!

The prices I mentioned in the "price" section are based on the paper bracelets that allow you to ride on all rides. If you pay for individual rides (and don't go on very many), the price is obviously cheaper.

The Nightlife of Helsinki

Ah yes, here we come to the subject dearly loved by young people. Bars, new people, excitement: nightlife! There is really an abundance of different sorts of nightlife in Helsinki, anything from grubby little bars, to big, trendy places. There are places for hippies and popsters, metalheads and gays/lesbians, rocksters and jazz-friends and lots more. Highlight is the place to go for anyone who loves popular music and popular people. A club for high-maintenace youngsters, the crème de la crème of Finnish "high-society". There is also another Highlight, the Highlight Café, which despite is name is not really all that café-ish, it's a place owned by the ice-hockey player Jari Kurri (this ...Read More
