Laura Ingalls Wilder lived on this site from 1880 to 1885. You get there from US 14 and follow a narrow road (can't remember the name) about 3 miles to the homestead site. Wilder's parents, the Ingalls, are buried in a gravesite on the other side of De Smet. The homestead itself didn't have any original buildings, but was on the original site, so all the things Laura Wilder wrote about could be viewed at this site, which has buildings, animals and a schoolhouse of that late 1800s era.
