spring break in colorado

An April 2003 trip to Estes Park by ginatp

We had a great time in Colorado over spring break. Estes Park was our home away from home for a week.

April is the quiet season, so the resort was not crowded ,which was nice. The condo was clean, roomy, and in good condition. The only drawback was that they only had a outdoor pool that was closed for the winter.

Quick Tips:

We knew we wanted to visit different cities in Colorado and knew we would be driving a lot. We took day trips to Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. We also drove to Vail, skied a day, and then spent one night in Glenwood Springs, which the kids and I loved. Spending the evening in the hot springs after a day of skiing was great!

Best Way To Get Around:

You need a car to get into town or if you want to travel to other parts of Colorado. We rented a Suburban, which was a great car as it snowed a few times and going up the mountain to Estes Park proved to be difficult.

Best Things About the Resort:
You can choose to spend your time in this quiet resort (remember we went in slow season) or you can venture out and drive to other cities. We drove to Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Vail. Even spent one night in Glennwood springs and had a great time in the hot springs.

Resort Experience:
April in Estes Park is quiet. Most outdoor activities are closed as was the resort pool. I didn't mind the quiet atmosphere as it was very relaxing and we had plenty to do outside of Estes Park--we never felt bored. The accommodations were great. The two bedrooms were large as well as the living and dining rooms. The kitchen was fully stocked.

Poppy's Pizza had a family atmosphere. Pizza seemed to be the most popular item on the menu, but there was a variety of food items on the menu. The food was good, service prompt. It was not crowded, however during April there are not many tourists.
