Overview

Room with a View
Visit the Vallone del Furore, Grotta dello Smeraldo (Emerald Grotto), the Duomo in Amalfi and relax no matter what.

Quick Tips:

Amalfi's not cheap, but I traveled in the winter during off season. It was still charming but not sun bathing weather. I saved a few bucks and enjoyed an amazing part of the world without the hordes of vactioning tourists.

Best Way To Get Around:

AMAZING!

The view alone was spectaular. It's an old convent, with a chapel and all, that's been restored into a grand hotel. It wasn't cheap (over $200 a night) but it was worth every penny of it. Truly amazing!

Attraction | "The Amalfi Duomo"

The Duomo is a magnificent Lombard-norman facade of striped arches. It's beautiful, peaceful and a perfect place to sit and people watch. This is the center of town and usually no shortage of people, especially in the summer time.

Empty Streets
Only 4 miles from Amalfi and up in the hills is a sweet town of Ravello. Both D. H. Lawrence and Greta Garbo spent time unwinding in Ravello. It's a lofty Garden of Eden along the already enchanting Amalfi Coast.

Antichi Sapori
All along the Amalfi Coast, the streets are lined with local vendors looking to see their goods. The area is particularly known for their lemons which is used to make a local lemon liquor. It's rather strong, sweet and good. Try it out and bring some home for a friend. It makes a great gift.

Grotta Dello Smeraldo
I don't actually fish, but it was an interesting experience to watch the local folks do their thing. I hung out on this very small, rather private sector of the coast and talked with the locals -- that is the few who spoke English. I imagine if you like to fish, this would be an amazing experience -- THESE FOLKS FISH DAILY!
