A June 2003 trip to Aruba by LindaW

Quote: Total relaxation and peace of mind was my goal as I headed into the friendly skies to Destination: Aruba. One week of nothing to do but watch the iguanas run and the waves roll in sounds like paradise, and it was.

Overview

Aruba is a great place to just relax if that's your plan, or check out the many available activities. An excursion to the "wild side" of the island is a must. I personally like the rolling waves at the Casa Del Mar Resort versus the smooth flat water at the high rise area. Quick Tips: Word of Caution: If you've rented a vehicle, do NOT drive on the dried up lake beds. tow job later, our children were towed out with mud up to the doors. After they got over the cost, it made for a good laugh and some really hilarious pictures.Best Way To Get Around: Public transportation (buses) are scheduled, pretty much on time and only cost a few dollars round trip. Taxis are government regulated w...Read More

The entry/lobby are spacious and nicefully furnished. There is a beauty shop, fitness room, jewelry store, juice bar, car rental, clothing store, souvenir shop right on the premises and a small grocery and several clothing shops at the adjoining Aruba Beach Club. The location of this resort makes it convenient to everything. There are good sized rolling waves at the beach in front of the resort. This is about the only resort that has waves. If smooth water is more your st...Read More

French Steakhouse

Restaurant

We ate alongside the pool under the stars. Three steaks and two seafood dinners later, we all sat and wondered how we could possibly waddle out of there. The onion soup was one of the best I have had in years. We all got the dinner specials, which included a bottle of wine per couple. We shared a bottle of very excellent wine and brought the second bottle home with us. The steaks were huge, tender, and flavorful. Everything about the restaurant was pleasing. I definitely recommend it for a romantic dinner for two, a group of friends, or a family. It can accommodate all.

Horse Back Riding Thru the Wild Side

Attraction

Quote:
Tried horseback riding twice now through the dry arid lands on the wild side of the island. First trip to the Natural Pool was an experience going down the hill to the corral where you rest your horses. This was with Rancho Del Campo. I very much enjoyed this trip as we did a lot of running thru the sand dunes after the natural pool stop. Second trip via horseback we went with Rancho Notorious and did the lighthouse route. I was not nearly as impressed as I had expected. With Rancho Del Campo, you can ride side by side and talk, but with Rancho Notorious, you must stay single file. There is only just so much to see so it gets a little boring walking along. (Note: I sa...Read More
