Charming Corfu

A June 2003 trip to Corfu by Idis

Due to the charter industry on the greek islands, Corfu still has its charm and a beautiful nature. Go to Kerkyra, the main city, and enjoy the cafes and beautiful architecture.

Overview

Kerkyra - Corfu city is worth a visit just to walk through the narrow streets and watch the everyday life. It´s quite a big city and the main street has lots of shoe shops, cafes, gyros shops, etc.

Quick Tips:

Gyros is the fast food of Greece -- quick and tasty food, almost like a shawarma.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a scooter. It´s fast, cheap, and you get around faster on the steep and narrow mountain roads and you can always find a place to park.
There are also public busses all arround the island at a cheap price. But ýou have to consider if you have the patience to wait for the bus -- they are not always on time !

Hotel

Lofos Hill is a nice middle class hotel, which is mostly used by Scandinavian travel agencies, but you can also get a room coming from the street.

The place have a beautiful view over the harbour and the ruins of the old fortress of Kassiopi and you can see the beautiful sun down over the Mediterranean and Albania, which lies right on the other side.

The hotel lies on a little hill and is isolated and quiet, with no bars or discos to keep you up all night. But bring a mosquito net - there are lots of them.

Each room has a nice bathroom, a small kitchen, 2-4 beds, and a nice porch or veranda.
