Auburn is one of the friendliest towns I have ever visited. From the front desk staff at the hotel where we stayed to the students we met on the Auburn University campus, everyone was so friendly.

The highlight of my visit to Auburn was a visit to Cheawacla State Park. Being as far south as I was I did not expect to find a mountain but that is what I found when I visited this state park.

Best Way To Get Around:

Hampton Inn AuburnBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Hampton Inn"

This is our home away from home when we travel to Auburn to visit my wife's mother and dad. The hotel is located just off I-85 and is just a short distance from the Auburn University campus. Like other Hampton Inn's it offers a free continental breakfast.

Restaurant

If you like barbecue then you will like Country's. They have barbecue plates and sandwiches and also daily luncheon specials. One thing I like about Country's is the large servings - I always have to get a to go box.

Restaurant | "Mellow Mushroom"

When they say the best pizza in town - they mean the best pizza in town. This is a big hangout for the college crowd, but if you like pizza and beer then join right in.

Red LobsterBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Having tired of turkey and dressing, Red Lobster was a great choice for an after Christmas luncheon with the in-laws.

The luncheon menu contains many entrees for less than $10 or you can still order from the regular menu, which is what my stepson did. He ordered the fisherman's feast, which consisted of crab legs, lobster, and shrimp, while my in-laws and wife had the fisherman's combo of shrimp scampi, fish and scallops.

I ordered the stuffed flounder with lobster and crabmeat stuffing and it was absolutely delicious. Also the portion I had was more than enough to fill me up and not want a dessert.

My in-laws and wife said their entrees were also delicious while my stepson cleaned his plate and said his was also very good.

Chewacla is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year but the spring time is especially beautiful with the dogwoods in bloom. My wife and I took her parents, who hadn't visited the park in over 30 years, on a beautiful spring day.
Camellia Place Lake
Located on the eastern side of Auburn, several miles from the University, is Camellia Place, an assisted and independent living complex.

My in-laws moved here almost one year ago, and they really enjoy their two-bedroom cottage, which has a beautiful view of a lake from their living room and bedroom windows.

Built and maintained by the East Alabama Medical Center, Camellia Place offers one and two bedroom cottages, as well as assisted living apartments. The cottages all have full size kitchens with all appliances included and a laundry room with a full size washer and dryer. All units also come with a garage with automatic garage door.

There is also an emergency response system along with maintenance and weekly housekeeping available.

Although my father-in-law still drives, transportation is available for those who don''t. My in-laws attend many of the socials and take part in the planned activites, which include day trips to surrounding attractions. My father-in-law also enjoys the walking trails, including one that goes around the lake. There is also a dining room, where my in-laws eat lunch every day, while eating breakfast and supper in their own home.
