Tuscaloosa is more than just going to a ball game

A travel journal to Tuscaloosa by Tideone

Tuscaloosa is more than just being the home of the University of Alabama. Once going to Tuscaloosa meant catching a ball game but now a visitor can find more to do than just seeing a ball game.

My most memorable moment in Tuscaloosa was visiting the Paul W. Bryant Museum on the campus of the University of Alabama. In addition to memorabilia about one of the most outstanding football coaches, there is also a 100 years of Crimson Tide football to experience.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around Tuscaloosa is by car but the best way to tour the campus is by foot.

Hotel | "Hampton Inn - University"

There are actually two Hampton Inns in Tuscaloosa but we stay at this one because it is closer to the University. There are many other motels and hotels in the Tuscaloosa vicinity but we stay at the Hampton because we belong to the Hilton Honors program. This Hampton is just like any other Hampton around the country so you know what you are getting when you stay here.

No trip to Tuscaloosa is complete without a visit to the Bryant Museum. Better known to football fans as the Bear, the museum contains memorabilia of his life and his coaching days at the University of Alabama. The museum also contains exhibits of the 100 years of football tradition at the Capstone.

Visitors are able to experience the history of the Mercedes-Benz automotive company at the Mercedes Benz Vistiors Center - the first of its kind outside Germany. There is also an exhibit on the racing triumphs of Mercedes Benz through the years. The highlight is a tour of the manufacturing plant to see the Class M vehicles being produced. Many people also come to the visitor center to take possession of their M-class vehicle.

The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
