Myrtle Beach - South Beach Resort

A May 2003 trip to Myrtle Beach by ronkahrs

Very disappointing! Only one building complete. No reliable transportation. You must cross five lanes to get to beach. No shuttle to beach. Room had mites, fruit flies, and roaches. Room not treated for our family of friends making the stay miserable. Asked three times. Will not return.

Joe's Crab ShackBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Joe's Crab House"

Asked to seat inside. Was told outside was only available, so we took it. As we were sitting down, there were two empty tables. I asked and was given some pitiful excuse of why we could not eat inside. After waiting 20 minutes without a word from a waiter or waitress, we gave up and left.

HOWEVER, the personnel are very trustworthy. My wife lost her pocketbook and tracked it back to Joe's. They were pokite, and when she picked up her purse the next day, every penny was still there. We eat at Joe's all the time in Atlanta . . . food is great!

Was the worst meal I have ever had in my life. Even the kids refused to eat! Don't get sucked in thinking your doing something special for the kids. If you go, don't eat there -- just take the short self-guided tour.

Dick's Last Resort Joe's Bar & GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Dick's Last Resort"

The kids loved Dick's. I had a large beer which Dick's calls a Big Ass Beer. The kids got a kick out of that as well as everyone's hat at the table. The waiters are rude to you on purpose . . . you, of course, can be rude back . . . hence the name "Last Resort". A bit more expensive than expected, but would go back without thinking twice. Everyone should experience this once in their life.

Good meal at reasonable price with good service.

Is adjacent to Broadway at the Beach, where there is shopping and Ripley's Aquarium. Fireworks take place at 10pm every night over the pond.

Story/Tip

For $12-15 per kid for racing all day, it's a deal. Don't buy individual tickets to ride on the racecars -- it gets too expensive too fast. I found a buy one get one free T-shirt. My boys love them and they had a great time racing.
I thought the price was a bit much just to see some alligators until I found out that there are 800 alligators. There are also reptiles, bears, and several shows put on daily. Is adjacent to shopping and Dicks Last Resort. I took kids to alligator adventure while wife went shopping. We all had a great time and would return to see the alligators being fed.

Miniature GolfBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Pirates Watch for two kids and two adults all day was $14 with coupon. We all had fun and the kids finally started to slow down around the fifth and final round. The four of us played one round of mini golf in the evening at Jurassic Golf and the price was $25+. I would go for a play all day . . . it's better than getting nickled and dimed.
