Early Summer Sunshine

A May 2003 trip to Lanzarote by teuchter

Quote: The sun shone for two weeks, a light breeze blew most of the time and kept the temperature comfortable but warm. To visit most of the interesting places - cultural sites - and travel round the island will take approx. five days at a leisurely pace.

Early Summer Sunshine

Overview

Quote:
A visit to the Cesare Manrique Foundation is a must as a starting point to any tour of the Island. Manrique as an architect was responsible for a number of the cultural buildings and his design and presentation of the natural lava rock formations should not be missed.Quick Tips: Shop around to get the best car hire deal. Taxis are plentiful but unless you book in advance on changeover days you may have to wait a while. At other times no problems - just wave them down in the street if they are showing a green light.Best Way To Get Around: Public transport is adequate, taxis are cheap and plentiful, but the best way to visit most of the sites of interest and get round the island is by ...Read More

Balti Curry House

Restaurant

Quote:
Believe it or not this Indian restaurant is run by a guy called Steve who originally comes from Manchester, UK. He has been well taught by an Indian chef. On the two occasions we visited, our meals were absolutely delicious, so much so that we agreed this was the best food we had had eating out in Lanzarote.

Sirocco Restaurant

Restaurant

Quote:
Good range of foods covering all types, including steaks, pizza, fish. Good quality. Wine can be a bit expensive, especially when you consider what it would cost in the supermarket next door.

Teguise Market

Attraction

Quote:
A large market with many stalls in the squares and through the narrow streets of the town. A large African influence brings a unique character to this market. Well worth a visit and only held on Sundays.

Teguise Market

Teguise, Lanzarote, Spain

This house was created by Manrique out of holes in the lava flow and must be seen to be believed. He is also responsible for designing other "places of interest" on the island and if you have the time, all should be visited. His work can also be seen on other islands of the Canaries and on mainland Spain.

You are actually in the middle of the solidified lava flow. Pipes have been sunk into the ground to create artificial geysers when water is poured into them. The restaurant cooks its food over a grill in the mountain using the natural heat of the volcano. Approaching the park entrance from the south, you will pass the area where you can take a camel ride.

Lanzarote Gifts

Attraction

If you are interested in digital, still, or video cameras, this is the place to get the real story without the hassle of bartering over silly start prices. This guy tells it as it is - quotes the price he can sell at and lets you make up your mind. No haggling, no bartering. If you think you can still do better elsewhere after getting his price, he will let you go away and try. I bet you will come back here - I did.
