FortBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "The Fort"

You are sure to enjoy a bit of the wild west with a rustic lodge décor and wild west selection of entrees including rattlesnake, buffalo, fine game, beef, and fish. When the G8 Summit was in Denver several years ago, The Fort hosted a dinner for the world leaders meeting with President Clinton attending.

This restaurant is approximately 30 minutes scenic drive from Denver and nearby to Red Rocks amphitheatre, which is worth a side-trip for the scenic views or for a concert. Suggest low heel shoes as there are some unpaved parking areas and walkways. Reservations highly suggested.

If you like beer, downtown pub style food and a beer hall with 8 - 12 beers on tap. This is Denver's first brewpub founded in 1988. The owner John Hickenlooper was elected Denver mayor in 2003 following a mayor's race run-off. One floor has a billiard hall. Popular entrees are fish and chips or elk medallions, and beer, of course. You can bring the kids here too. In Lo-Do (lower downtown) 1634 18th Street near the Union Train Station. Here's their website and to print a beer coupon click here.

Upscale steakhouse with terrific food, beautiful wood paneling throughout and delicious steaks and side dishes. They purchase top-grade beef products and have purchased the top winning beef cows at the nationally famous Denver Stock Shows. Separate cigar bar. With the Denver Broncos headquarters, Denver TV studios, and sports-players residences nearby, there's a change you might see a famous personality. When you want a special and memorable dining experience, Del Frisco's is highly recommended. Although primarily known for their steak, they offer excellent seafood as well. Side dishes are very good and serve several. A la carte menu averages $50+. Bar menu offers a $9.95 hamburger and a lower dining tab. Valet parking available. Reservations recommended.

Restaurant

Popular casual restaurant in the 16th St. mall area. Open for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Excellent value! Wonderful desserts, large menu selection from chicken to beef, fish, and vegetarian entrees. A detailed descriptive menu helps with selecting an entree that you will truly enjoy.

Rumored to be a favorite with Bill and Hillary Clinton when they were intown, Cheesecake Factory offers extremely generous food portions, you can share an entree or you may need a take-home box in order to have room for dessert. There's a bar inside if your taking a break from nearby shopping. Outside cafe dining in warmer weather. Pick-up a wireless pager at the hostess desk and wait to be beeped when your table is ready.

Flagstaff House RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Flagstaff House"

Fine dining and unforgettable ambiance and views for a special occasion and splurge! Flagstaff House is family owned and run and offers fine dining in Flat Iron mountain foothills in Boulder, which is approximately 40 minutes drive north on US-36 from Denver. If you are looking for a memorable dining experience, you will not be disappointed. If you're looking for a romantic location, this is it, as it is a popular spot for marriage proposals.

The first courses average $17, but there is an option for ordering Beluga caviar and Half Bottle of Krug NV Champagne for $265, the salads average $9, the entrees prices are $28 - $90. Sometimes the chef is trying out new dishes and occassionally will offer diners free samples of these new creations. We usually skip dessert and have coffee or tea, because we have had each course and have no room, but if you are celebrating a special occassion let them know in advance as they may have special desserts.

The restaurant offers fine wines and cocktails and you may enjoy a drink before or following your dining experience at their bar area.

My favorite location for seating is an early evening on the patio overlooking Boulder Valley where the air is clear, fresh, and pine-scented mingled with the sound of birds singing.

The Flagstaff House holds many prestigious awards, including Colorado's only Wine Spectator Grand Award since 1983, Mobil Four Star Award, Triple AAA Four Diamond Award, and the DiRoNA Award.

They open at 5pm and reservations are recommended several weeks in advance to obtain a special date and time.

The menu and web reservations is available on their website. I recommend calling in person for reservations for your convenience. Here's their website.

Barbecue, steakhouses, fun and western atmosphere, a FUN Denver institution! A new building replaced the one burned down on Mother's Day several years ago, but still retains the rustic western atmosphere with the addition of a few TVs, so you won't miss important sporting events. There's a giant slide for kids and adults and country-western dancefloor with a live band in the evenings. Rows of red-checkered tablecloth tables. No ties allowed and they will cut-off your tie if you wear one inside. Woodfired grill for steaks or salmon, sides of baked beans and potatoes. Steaks served in cowboy, cowgirl, or stud sized-portions. Be sure to try the unique appetizer Rocky Mountain Oysters served in a basket. There is a bar to enjoy drinks or appetizers. This is a friendly fun place and great for groups and children.
