From Guernsey State Park
As we travel along to the Land of the West, there's much to see! Notice the Rocky Mountains in the distance to the West as you ride from Denver to Wyoming state line. Along the trail, we stop in for dinner at Loveland, CO. There's much to see: like Register Cliff, the Oregon Trail ruts, and the Castle overlooking Guernsey State Park and Lake. Come along on a Wild, Wild West adventure!

Quick Tips:

Be ready for the long ride as it's a good 60 miles to Wal-mart! But it's worth the ridin for an adventure like this! Be sure to fill the tank up with gas before leaving Cheyenne going north. There's not many stations along the way.

Best Way To Get Around:

An automobile is a must. There is no public transportation or taxis.

If you're looking for a nice room near the airport with a free shuttle for your flight home, the Red Lion Inn would be a good choice. Located only about 20 minutes from DIA, the Red Lion Inn is equipped with restaurant, free shuttle, and nice rooms.

Hotel

We personally stayed with individuals we were associated with. However there is a local hotel in town which is available. Also, there are hotels down the interstate in Cheyenne with about a 1.5-hour drive.

Restaurant | "Restaurant located by the Platte River"

This is a good family restaurant. There are not many restaurant choices in town. And this is my pick. I especially like the roast beef. Try it for a hearty meal!

From the Castle
Places to See:

1. The Castle - Located in Guernsey State Park off of Hwy 26 just west of Guernsey. Follow the winding road to the Castle, the largest picnic shelter in the park. It overlooks nice size canyon with lake at the bottom. Bring a jacket, it's cool up here!

2. The Beach - That's right. There's a beach in Wyoming! I didn't know that either. But it's true. This manmade beach is the only one of it's kind in the Guernsey State Park. Located at the camping area.

3. The Oregon Trail Ruts - For all you history buffs out there, you're going to love this. Actual ruts from those early Oregon trail travelers are worn in the sandrock for all to see.
