bye bye boston

A travel journal to Boston by Mrs O

After living in Boston for 11 years, I do have a few good things to say and a few bits of advice to the first time visitor. Do not rent a car -- use the public transport.

Overview

My personal favourite is Quincy Market in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. In the summer it is a hub of activity. The duck tours are a blast but be warned to get there early as the lines are long. Beacon Hill is also a beautiful place to visit; pop into 65 Beacon Street and tell them I said hi. Rent a car for the day and drive to Newburyport; it's a straight route up highway rt1. Visit Filenes Basement in the center of Downtown Crossing for the best bargains around: a pair of Levi jeans would run you only 29 dollars or a pair of Nike air sneakers for 50 dollars. Make sure to walk down both Newbury and Boylston Streets to see the expensive shops and the outdoor restaurants. Take a trip into Saunsies on Newbury Street where all the beautiful people go, or have a pint and Boston's voted best burger at the Hill Tavern on Cambridge Street. If Boston is the place for you then remember to pack extra bags to bring home all the bargains you can get.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

With the Big Dig still under way the best and most affordable way to get around Boston is by Bus and the T(subway) You can buy visitor passes by the day or the week.

Restaurant

We were seated very quickly and outside, which was really nice. The menu was explained to us as it was our fist visit. The server was friendly, fast and seemed to know what we needed before we did. I would highly recommend this place.
