Driving through via Tioga Road which opened on May 31st the day before we arrived. This is an awesome drive with great views but it is closed most of the year due to snow.

Yosemite Valley is another awesome highlight, except for the many mosquitos.

The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is also a very humbling experience. These are some really BIG trees.

Quick Tips:

Go to the Yosemite website for more information: www.nps.gov/yose

Best Way To Get Around:

A vehicle is the best way to get around. There is no gas available in Yosemite Valley. We saw several people on motorcycles and this looked like a very fun way to ride through the mountains.

We got to Yosemite Valley at dusk and missed most of the views, so we decided to just sleep in the car. There was a sign up saying the this was not allowed as there are bears in the area that search the parking lots and campgrounds for food. We had no problem and did not see any bears. We woke up at 6am and witnessed a beautiful sunrise that we would have missed if we had slept in a bed in a cabin or hotel room.

But it would have been more comfortable to have slept in a bed.

Yosemite Falls

The Yosemite Falls are out of this world. We saw the Falls shortly after their peak. By August, the water dries up and during the winter it is mostly frozen. So the best time to visit is in the spring and early summer. There is a path that takes you to the bottom of the lower Falls where you can hear the roar of the water and feel the cold mist blow on you. Wow!

These trees are BIG. I've never seen trees so big. Walking through this grove was a very humbling experience. For awhile we just walked in silence. The Grizzly Giant just puts you in awe. How could a tree grow so big? We also learned that you can only find these trees in the Sierra Mountains in California.

A visit to this grove is very worth the trip.
