Jungle Trekking, Canopy Walkway, Visit Orang Asli (aboriginal) communities, Cave Exploration, River Tubing.Quick Tips: On first impressions: You may think that to take a guided tour is the only way to experience the park's attractions, but when you scratch the surface of what the various tours have to offer, you'll find many of them are relatively overpriced. Read my freeform review for the details.Best Way To Get Around: Local buses costing about RM1 leave the nearest major town, Jerantut, regularly. However, they are unreliable and aren't timed to meet boat departures. Your best bet is to take one of the Hostel Minibuses at RM4 from Hotel Sri Emas. After that it's a three ho...Read More

There are twin A-Frame huts here for listed at RM40 per night, but we got one for RM30 because we were staying for two (!) nights. There's a makeshift bathroom, and a good fan. It looked clean on first inspection, but we later realised there was a distinct smell of vomit from the beds -- we don't think it actually is vomit because it is of uniform strength all over both beds and pillows, however it is nonetheless quite disgusting. Just don't sleep face down and you'll be ok.

It's ok, good and cheap, service is quite slow. This restaurant doubles as the local office of NKS Tours, the local tour operating monopoly. You'll probably arrive here first when you dock at the park and will no doubt be back to await your various tours. The food is fine and prices ok. Be warned that these restaurants tend to run out of various essential commodities such as bananas and french fries -- next thing you know, they'll be out of rice. It's the second best restaurant on the river. My advice is to go next door to the Rumbia, where the surroundings are less clinical and the food is a million times better. Go to LBK when Rumbia is closed.

A diamond in the rough! Never have I seen a restaurant shine out so brightly amongst its competitors. There are several floating restaurants on the water all serving similar grub for the same price, but Rumbia is far and away the best. On first impression I worried, that I couldn't afford this place when I saw its candelit ambience, but when I opened the menu I saw its prices were the same as all the rest. And the taste was simply the best I've had from its like in Malaysia. When in Taman Negara, eat there and nowhere else.

LBK Floating Restaurant

Small, cramped, smelly, scary, and full of shit. And bats. Most people say that this is the premier attraction in Taman Negara. People describe, "crawling between rocks, your hands covered in batshit, and the little critters flying about your head," sounds unappealing but they also say "go, go, go, it's brilliant," and they're right. Wear clothes you don't want to wear for a while(or again) and prepare to be wowed by hundreds of little bats hanging from the cave roof in the smallest of crevasses you'd never dream of trying to get into or out of. Not to be missed. Tours leave daily at 10am and 3pm from the LBK floating restaurant and cost RM35 -- bring a flashlight and a sense of humour.

Gua Telinga/Ear Cave - Little Bats Galore

Be prepared to be somewhat disappointed. The use of the term "white water" tends to incite expectations of adrenaline rushes, but there will be none forthcoming. Being a river tubing virgin I didn't quite know what to expect, but the key to enjoying this activity is not to expect too much. Quite simply you are released in a relatively slow flowing river in large tyre tubes and have to paddle your way downstream to about four individual rapids where you gain a little momentum and get a bit wet. It's akin to one of those river ride things at Disneyland that's suitable for the entire family. Now that you know what to expect, you may find it a relaxing way to wile away half a day, but like most tours in T...Read More

This is just bad. Maybe my group got off to a bad start when we were left waiting outside a bar for half an hour where our guide was being dragged out to show us. He then informed us that he was the 'emergency guide' because the guy who was supposed to bring us was watching a champion's league football match. One gets the impression these people take tourists for granted. He didn't give us high hopes of actually seeing anything when he told us that he wasn't as good as his full-time colleague, and sure enough he failed to deliver. Maybe I'm being a bit hard, we saw a snake and two leopard-type animals, which looked strangely similar to the stray cats that roam the locality. That was it. Oh, and a lot ...Read More

Canopy Walkway

Attraction

Quote:
The Canopy Walkway is a suspended rope and steel hanging walkway suspended about 40m from the ground between various forest trees. There's not much more than that to say about it but it's fun, cheap and well worth a try. Sufferers of Vertigo needn't worry, you'll spend too much time watching your hands as you grasp the side nets to keep yourself steady to notice the great drop underneath you. You'll find it about a 20-minute walk from the Mutiara resort across the river from Kuala Tahan. At RM5, it's a cheap thrill; there's a queue at busy times, but it's a welcome rest from the hike up to it. It's open daily from 9am to 2:45pm, except on Fridays when it closes at 11am for prayers. Not to be missed.

Story/Tip

Quote:
What you'll find is that just about every money spinning activity surrounding Taman Negara is run by, or connected with, NKS tours. They own hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Jerantut, the LBK restaurant, and run every tour. The services are quite good in some respects and not that good in others. So I'll give a run down of what I thought about everything. They own the Hotel Malaya in KL (Petaling Street, Chinatown, 03 20720336) and the Hotel Sri Emas in Jerantut (09 2664488/2664499). They provide a bus service from outside their KL hotel to the jetty at Kuala Tembeling for RM30. I stayed in Jerantut after our Transnasional bus driver dropped us at the door and escorted us into reception. We ...Read More
