When I told my relatives I was going to visit Bangkok, they all started to make jokes about sex tourism and so on. This is really frustrating, it is a fact that Bangkok (and Pattaya) are major sex destinations. Many frustrated American and European men go there to enjoy themselves with young Thai girls. I hope the world will do something about this abuse of small children and I hope that we will start to appreciate Bangkok for its other beauty.
Because after having visited Bangkok for a few days I really doubt whether there is another city in the world with so much religious buildings as this one. On every streetcorner, in every house, everywhere you look you will find a temple small or big. Most of the temples in Bangkok are still used and a very well taken care of. Sometimes it looks like all the gold of the world was used to create the thousands of temples in Bangkok. You might get the point already, whenever you visit Bangkok you should visit some of its marvelous temples, like the Wat Phra Kaeo or the Wat Pho. Close to Bangkok there are also some very nice sites; like the ruined city Ayuthaya, the floating market or the bridge over the river Kwai.
Quick Tips:
If you are sick of the busy city, visit the river Kwai for a few days. Located in the jungle near Burma, it will offer you a lot of fresh air, heat and historic drama.
Best Way To Get Around:
In Bangkok taxis and tuctucs are everywhere. The taxis are a bit more expensive than the tuctuc (a 3-wheel motor vehicle) but also a bit more safe. By this time, the skytrain should also be finished.
