A May 2003 trip
to Tobago Cays by adenut
Quote: We stayed at the Sandy Point Beach Resort in Tobago. The resort is a beach based holiday offering a wide variety of entertainment, excursions, and dining (both local and international). The resort is actually within walking distance of the airport, but do not let this put you off, as there are mainly domestic flights landing so noise is minimal and does not affect the enjoyment of the resort.
Snorkeling and diving is a must as most of the beauty can be found in and around the warm and clear waters, the reefs are amazing and the fish plentylful. A visit to Nylon pool and Buccoo Reef is a must, and for me, the most memorable moment of that journey was to hold a live turtle that our guide caught (and placed back unharmed).
A memorable moment is to take a cocktail from the beach front bar at night and to sit out on the cabana listening to the waves crashing on shore. The best beach for me was at Pigeon point, beautiful white sands, cool breezes, clear water and a variety of shops, bars and eateries. Three members of staff will stay memorable for a very long time: Elvira, Tony, and Cardine, three amazing people.
Be prepared to wait a little longer than expected as things are laid back and time is of no great importance.
Explore the island to discover the best food and you will find a huge variety,(visit Ru-b-lue's) amazing food and hospitality.
Laundry service is very cheap and returned the same day.
Get involved, the locals know no shyness and expect you to dance and talk as if you have known them for a long time.
Change your money/Travellers Cheques at the bank whenever possible as you get a much better exchange rate with no fees.
Public transportation is best avoided as it is unreliable, infrequent, and often very full.
Taxis are relatively inexpensive, although you must agree a price before you enter one.

The service you receive is very friendly and is second to none, and the attitude is that if they have the ingredients, they will make it.
