We had a great time in Valdez enjoying both the town and the hiking areas. We hiked out Mineral Creek Road which at the end of a mile trail was an historic gold stamp mill. The views were breathtaking. We stopped at one point on the road and were able to count 7 waterfalls. Other trips that we took were a 4 hour ride out to Columbia glacier. On the trip we saw many bald eagles and otters, and at the glacier we saw seals. The salmon and halibut fishing at that time of the year is absolutely amazing. The people of Valdez are warm and friendly and there are plenty of bed and breakfasts to stay in. Nearby Wilmington Glacier is a great place to get up close to a glacier and have a picnic. Visiting historic Valdez gives you the feeling of being back in the mining days when Valdez was begun. The Totem Inn, Oscars and Mikes Palace are great places to eat. Valdez is definitely a must see.
