Universal Studios Summer 2002

Overview

Quote:
Universal Studios was fantastic. We enjoyed it more than Disney World as a whole.Quick Tips: Buy a multi-day pass so you don't feel pressured. If it's a rainy day (which happens often in a Florida summer trip), leave and go shopping! I checked AAA and other discount venues and ended up buying an internet special, for five consecutive days, that was offered on the Universal Studios Orlando website. This was perfect for us because that was how many full days we would have in Orlando.Best Way To Get Around: We rented a car. Avis preferred was fantastic! Our best experience. No waiting in lines, we went directly to the parking area and they had our information already programme...Read More

We went to the breakfast buffet. $3.75 for adults, $2.99 kids, and does not include beverage. They ring you up as you come in then you are on your own. I recommend getting there early because the lines get long. Food was pretty good for a buffet, but we wouldn't go there more than once.

We did the buffet, which came to $95.54 for four. Not overly impressed. We come from Maine so have high standards for our seafood. It was a pricey meal for the quality in our opinion.

Congo River Golf & Exploration Co.

This is a pretty well kept course and challenging. There are bargain mini-golf places all over Orlando, but you get what you pay for. There are live gators here that you can buy food to feed them off a fising line. Of course they sell the bait, but it wasn't a lot of money. This is a tourist town after all. You can participate in a scavenger hunt while you golf, where in each course you have to spot certain items. If you are right, you get to spin a wheel for a free game, T-shirt, or discout coupon. Something to do while you wait for the players in front of you. My son is an animal person (15 years old) and loved catching the small toads/frogs and chameleons. B...Read More

I wish I kept the park maps so I could remember everything. Both parks are right next to each other so easy to visit both, but watch your park hopping rules. You can only use the pass once each day so need to have your hand stamped if you go back in. Note: Chlorine washes the stamp off so just tell them you went swimming - you have to show your pass anyway. The original Universal park has tamer (not necessarily tame) rides than Islands of Adventure. This park is based more on films, but made interesting. We first walked thru Seussville complete with the Cat in the Hat. The Grinch was our favorite as we loved the Jim Carrey movie and grew up with the cartoon. The character was true t...Read More

We were surprised when we got there to find no lines! This was early August. We got to the park a little after it opened. No mass of people like you get at Disney. We went straight to Dueling Dragons and my son and husband got to ride two back to back rides without getting back in line (one each dragon). They got front row on their second ride! When they came back out, I went on the Ice Dragon with my son. Ice is 'tamer' than Fire. What a ride. Two dragons twist and turn at the same time and at times go straight at each other. Once was enough for me. My motto in general is I'll try it once to say I did (other than those I know will make me ill!). After his third rid...Read More

We have visited a number of Pirates Cove courses, our first in Bar Harbor. Whenever we see one in our travels, we have to try it out. The courses vary, but are generally the same idea. Quality course. This was near our hotel so we walked here after dinner to exercise off our food!

This was a large mall (not huge). All the typical stores you would expect. A nice place to wander when waiting to be able to check into the hotel.

Entertainment Book

Story/Tip

Quote:
We purchased an Entertainment Book (discounted because we already had a book for home). We used it a few times, enough to get our money's worth. For example, Congo Golf (mini golf) was about $12 per person and we used a buy one get one free coupon.

When we left, we gave the book to a family from England that was staying in the area for a month.
