Spring in Carlsbad

A May 2003 trip to Carlsbad by SierraSara

The Carlsbad Inn is a charming older resort that has been kept up-to-date and is well-maintained. We would love to return here for the resort and the surrounding activities.

Best Things Nearby:
Legoland and the flower fields are very close. There are plenty of golf resorts with a variety of sizes and prices nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
Although the resort is old, they have updated and maintained it very well. Things like having a good shower heads and nice baths make a big difference to me! The service of the staff was excellent.

Resort Experience:
We had a large two bedroom that could have easily slept six. Everything you need is included. They even had three TVs in the unit. The laundry is coin operated downstairs.

The workout room was good but not great. We loved the free bikes. You could check them out for two hours and cruise along the coast watching the surfers and birds. It was delightful. A very family friendly place. They have a ping pong table, games, and generally go the extra mile to have activities for all ages.

The Carlsbad Village has great little restaurants that you can walk to. Pronto's Market is good for lunch or take out dinners. We tried lots of the places and they were all pretty good.

We had an excellent Italian meal with good service. The pasta sauces were excellent and the fish was done perfectly. We went early on a week night, so reservations were not necessary. I suspect that it's different on weekends.

The food was excellent and well priced. We had the lamb and chicken shish kebobs. With dinner, you get soup, pita bread, rice, and veggies. They serve a dollop of creamy garlic sauce to dip the meat in. Fabulous for garlic lovers.

The restaurant is right across the street from the Carlsbad Inn and has outdoor dining with heaters.

We had a wonderful Mother's Day dinner here. They have outdoor seating in the back with heaters. Our meal here was the best we had in Carlsbad. The service was excellent.

The wine list was decent and not too pricey. The sauces for the fish was very flavorful without being too rich. They seem to use the freshest ingredients and the dishes are presented beautifully. I would definitely return here.
