Brussels for a day

An October 2000 trip to Brussels by savella

Quote: Brussels...what the first thing that came in my mind?CHOCOLATE!!!The country is very well known for its fab chocolate. Travelling there for the day?I never thought that it can be done, but it can be done,as long as you have a sense of adventure,a close friend for company and a Guide book. It all started one day in the underground in London while I was with a good friend when she saw a poster for traveling to Brussels for the day.

Brussels for a day

Overview

The highlights of this were quite a few . . . The first one had to be the first time travelling on the EuroStar. The journey with the Eurostar was very comfortable and very exciting for a new way of travelling rather than the normal flying via plane. The facilities on the train were very good. At some point on the train, they have a bar that sells drinks and sandwiches. The prices are more expensive than in a normal shop. In general, I would say that the experience on the EuroStar was great. My second highlight was seeing the Anatonium . . . very strange building from the outside because it was built based on science. Once you reach the top, the view is amazing. You get to see nearly all of the ...Read More

Atomium

Attraction | "The Atomium"

From a young age I had only seen The Atomium once on TV. I never thought that I would actually be standing outside ready to in. Once you do enter the elevator, the guide tells you to look up and she switches the elevator lights off and it just a HUGE building. But I am telling you, once you reach the top, the view is just breathtaking. On the top there also a small restau...Read More

Mini-Europe

OK, once you are on the top of the Atomium, when you look down you can see the whole of Mini-Europe, which does look rather cute because everything is small. Mini-Europe is a small park, but the fun part is you get to see all the main attractions in Europe (i.e., the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Eiffel Tower) in miniature size.

While I was there with my friend, we saw loads of kids with their parents learning about different cultures, which was good.

The nicest thing about Mini-Europe is you get to travel Europe on foot and for a cheap price.
