Miami Beach - what a place

A travel journal to Miami by Tideone

Quote: Miami Beach used to be a haven for the old but that's not the case anymore. You almost feel like you're out of place if you are over 40. Miami Beach is truly a great place to visit anytime of the year. Miami Beach has everything for a truly great vacation.

Miami Beach - what a place Best of IgoUgo

Overview

Quote:
My most memorable moment was sitting on the deck of our hotel and watching the cruise ships depart.

Quick Tips:

No matter whether you come in the winter or summer, pack your sunscreen. It doesn't take long in the sun here to start seeing your skin turn red.

Best Way To Get Around:

Fontainebleau Miami Beach Best of IgoUgo

Although I have never stayed here (more money than I've got) before I have attended several functions in several of their suites and I can attest the accomodations are stictly first class. This resort is located on 20 acres and consists of three buildings with 1,206 rooms.

It is truly 'the crown jewel of Miami Beach' and when I make my first million this will be the first place I will want to stay. It is definitely a destination unto itself and I guess if I paid the price of a suite, I would never leave either and have my meals delivered via room service.

I have stayed here but before the restoration took place but even then it was a truly magnificent place. It is easy to see why many legendary Hollywood stars stayed here back in its heyday and while many of today's stars will find their way here. If you are planning a trip to Miami Beach stay here for at least one night.

The Savoy Hotel on South Beach Best of IgoUgo

Hotel | "The Savoy at South Beach"

Quote:
This beautiful art deco renovated hotel is located on the lower end of South Beach on the east side of the street, which means you have the beach at your back door.

While this is a time share - units are also rented on a nightly basis.

We had a one bedroom unit, complete with a small kitchen.

The marble bathroom included a tub and a seperate shower unit.

Our living room and bedroom overlooked the courtyard with the Atlantic Ocean in the background.

It was just a short walk from the hotel to the restaurants and bars of South Beach.

Joe's Stone Crab Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
Joe's has been a Miami Beach tradition since 1913. My first experience with Joe's was in 1980 on my first trip to Miami. That was when I learned how money really works. I was in town for a football game and went to Joe's with some other people, including a native of Miami. Upon our arrival, the line to get in was stretched at least two blocks down the street (this was at Joe's old location). 'No problem,' our host said as he slipped the maitre d' a bill. Less than ten minutes later we were seated and I was ordering my first ever order of stone crabs. And as they say, once you try them you are hooked, although I had to wait almost 16 years before I was to try my second helping. Joe's is...Read More

Monty's Stone Crab Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Monty's Stone Crab/Seafood House"

Quote:
When Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant is closed in the summer months and we happen to be in Miami then this is where we go to eat. Although the stone crabs are shipped in from somewhere on the east coast, I still have to have my fix. Ask for a table next to the water and if you happen to go on a day the cruise ships are leaving you will have a great seat. Other seafood items are also very good.

Larios On The Beach Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant

While I did not see Gloria Estefan (she owns the place) while I was dining, I did enjoy a very good Cuban meal at a very inexpensive price. And finding an inexpensive place to eat on South Beach takes some doing. If you like Cuban food then this is the place to eat while you are in Miami Beach.
