A March 2003 trip
to St. John by PAPAGENA
Quote: St. John, week 2.
We have been taking calls all last week and I have to say it is really hard. U.S. members never seem to have time and are always in a hurry -- I will have to get used to that, but I am used to some more patience from the German members.
After work we always seem to end up in a bar called Dooley's, which is in the same building. Even on our short breaks, we go there for coffee.
Tuesday after work, I went out with Morgan and her host Tanya to an Irish pub called O'Leary's. We were the only 3 customers so we decided to find something more busy. We did not really succeed, but ended up in another Irish pub and played some pool. Well, I was more watching then playing since I am not very skilled at pool. There have a lot of Irish pubs here and St. John is supposed to be the most Irish town in Canada. Whoever you talk to seems to have Irish or British ancestors.
On Thursday, I went with Morgan, Tanya, Tanya's boyfriend, and his sister and mother to see the movie X-Men 2. I enjoyed it a lot, I thought it was really funny. What I am really looking forward to though is the movie Matrix: Reloaded -- that will come out this Thursday and I can't wait to see it.
Friday night we went to Dooley's after work and Saturday I had a really hard time waking up for the guided tour Cendant organized for us. Well, anyway, I made it in time and off we went . . .
We were I guess 8 or 9 people in the Van and Suzanna was our tour guide. Our fist stop was the Salmon Federation Museum where they breed salmon. After that, we went to some fancy hotel in St. Andrews for lunch and I have to say they had the slowest service there ever. It took them 1 hour to bring only the salads and the portions were tiny, but what can you do, I suppose.
Our next stop was a place called St. Stephens, which is situated on the U.S. border. Just on the other side of the river was the U.S. state Maine. That was pretty cool.
In St. Stephens, we also went to the Chocolate Museum, but we did not really had a lot of time there since we were behind schedule because it took us so long to have lunch. Anyway, we had enough time to get some free samples before we had to leave again for St. John.
