A travel journal to Clearwater by Tideone

Quote: Clearwater is a great destination when it is a rainy day at the beach. There is nothing like going shopping to fill in those times when mother nature does her thing. Clearwater offers plenty of places to spend some time on a rainy day.

I have heard the argument before. If you have been to one Hooters restaurant - you have been to them all. While this is true, there is something a little different about the Hooters in Clearwater. It is the original - the first ever. However, don't go expecting to find the first ever Hooters girl there. I thought that would make a pretty good story but I did not get any help from the Hooters folks in my quest to find the original Hooters girl. Like every other Hooters I have ever been in, the original is no different with the menu being the same and the girls wearing the same skimpy outfits. But there is something about munching on a wing and thinking to yourself - so this is how it all st...Read More

Clearwater Mall

Attraction

This is our favorite place to visit especially when it is raining. This mall has just about everything from major retailers to speciality shops. And when you tired of shopping there is always the food court and a movie theater. Also located at the mall is the Florida World Museum of Natural History. While you are at the mall be sure and stop by the customer service desk. They might just have a nice gift for you but you have to show your room key.

Want to take some Florida citrus home with you or maybe you want to send some to some friends? No matter which you want to do, the folks at the Orange Blossom Groves can help you. They hand pack fresh Florida citrus for you to take with you or they have gift packs for the friends back home. The Orange Blossom Groves also has a souvenir gift shop and an open air produce market.

This is another great place to visit on a rainy day with 166 stores and an ice skating rink. Yes you read that right - an ice skating rink. This is also a great way to cool off after a hot day at the beach. This mall, which features several major retail outlets, along with plenty of specialty stores, also has Florida's only ice skating rink that is located in a mall.

Tours of this magnificent old hotel are given every day at 11 a.m. While there is a charge if you are a non-guest, guests of the hotel may take the tour for free. When we took the tour, we opted for the $15 ticket, which included lunch in the dining room.

Built by Henry Plant in 1897, the hotel is reportedly the largest occupied wooden structure in the world. The guided tour takes you throughout the entire hotel and includes the underground railway system that was used by the hotel staff.
