New Year's in P-Town

A January 2003 trip to Provincetown by SandyandJennifer

The best B&B, delicious dining, and fun friends in Provincetown!

We planned this short trip, 5 days, with friends. The highlights were the B&B -Gabriel's, a restraunt - The Mews, and shopping - end of the season sales!

Quick Tips:

Though the summer months provide a fun, crazy, and crowded time on the tip of the cape; the New Year provided us with a peaceful retreat that will probably turn into an annual New Year's jaunt.

Hotel

We stayed at Gabriel's on a friend's recommendation and will stay here on every return visit to P-Town.

The staff was very courteous and helpful. Upon check-in, we got a tour of the whole facility -- a steam room, exercise area, multiple common rooms, and video library. The B&B had a fabulous wine and cheese event every afternoon, which provided a great time to interact with others or a nice snack in our room's jacuzzi tub/steam bath before dinner. Beyond being impeccably clean and beautifully decorated, the "goodies" -- soaps, lotions, and such -- in the room topped everything off. The room we stayed in had a jacuzzi tub, steam shower, firplace, and a tempur-pedic mattress. This bed was the most comfortable bed I had ever slept in and I'm planning to get one at home. Additionally, the staff was very attentive when I requested a non-down pillow and comforter due to allergies. The breakfast was well worth getting out of the comfy bed for. In fact, I did not know that oatmeal could be so good.

The only down-side to Gabriel's was the parking -- there was none. Parking was available on the street, a near-by public lot, or up at the monument. We parked up at the monument because it was not easy to find a spot. Hence, in the summer, it would be very close to impossible to find a parking spot.

Restaurant | "Mews"

This was our second time dining at the Mews and again it was wonderful. The Stilton and pear salad started the meal off wonderfully, the filet mignon melted in my mouth, and unfortunately, I did not have room for dessert.

The wait staff was very kind and helpful. We dined downstairs and had a lovely view across the harbor. The bar/bistro upstairs seemed quite lively for the off-season.

I look forward to going again on our next trip to P-town. Additionally, we felt very comfortable, as a lesbian couple, dining here with a mixed crowd, gay and straight.
