Quote:
Boothbay Harbor is a quaint and charming New England town, with one of the prettiest harbors in the state. The downtown streets are lined with galleries, clothing shops, gift shops, great restaurants, and some of the usual tourist T-shirt shops too. The Country House is a lovely gift shop in the center of town. Sherman's is an old fashioned bookstore and gift shop. You'll want to spend hours in the upstairs book loft. You can walk from the main town across to the east side of the harbor via a wooden footbridge. The center of activity in town is Fish Pier, where you can walk from store to store along the water's edge. Here, you can choose from a harbor cruise, a day cruise to Monhegan Isl...Read More

Bet's Fish Fry

Restaurant

Bet's Fish Fry is housed in a small trailer parked beside the Boothbay Common on Rt 27. There's only one road (Route 27) into Boothbay Harbor, so you can't avoid driving by it on your way into town. Bet's has a sense of humor: Her slogan, written on the side of her trailer is: "Free Beer Tomorrow!" Bet herself is a character - a real down Mainer, accent and all. She will take your order, tell you some jokes, and make you feel like family. Bet specializes, of course, in fried fish sandwiches. Haddock, for $7, Fish and Chips for $10, or the WWF, the half sandwich and half fries. You order at the window and wait for your order to be called. People come back to Bet's year after year, swea...Read More

Robinson's Wharf

Robinson's Wharf is truly a restaurant on a wharf. It's located just over the swing bridge that separates Boothbay Harbor and Southport. As soon as you cross the bridge, it's on the left, parking on the right. Robinson's used to be the place to go for eating lobsters on picnic tables in an outdoor setting. The place seems to have gone downhill recently though - it looks in disrepair. Still, the experience can be fun for a family lobster feed. You order your lobster by size, and can get steamers and mussels, as well hamburgers and hot dogs. You'll eat on picnic tables on the wharf that extends out into the harbor. Usually, there are a few tugboats parked at the dock, they are owned by the res...Read More

Blue Moon

The Blue Moon is located on the waterfront in Boothbay Harbor. It's a small restaurant, with about six tables on its outdoor covered deck, and another eight or so tables inside. This small place has absolutely the best breakfasts in town. The pecan-crusted french toast is a specialty not to be missed. They also serve omelets, pancakes, and eggs the way you like them. They serve mexican eggs and their version of eggs benedict. There is always a quiche of the day as well. The coffee is great, and tastes all the better for the glorious harborside view. This is one of the few places that serves good, healthy, gourmet sandwiches on homemade bread for lunch. There are also homebaked goodies in the...Read More

The Lawnmere Inn is located just outside of Boothbay Harbor on the island of Southport. You'll cross the swing bridge that separates the two towns, then go straight about 3/4 of a mile to the inn. The inn is located on an incredible piece of real estate - from the inn a green lawn stretches down to a small sheltered harbor that is so tranquil and beautiful. Before dinner, enjoy a drink in the cozy lounge, which has a highly polished wooden bar and soft comfy chairs and sofas. The restaurant is located at the rear of the inn, overlooking this harbor. The room has wall of windows, so everyone has a view. The inn menu is limited and changes, but is always good. We've had delicious...Read More

Every Thursday night from June through August, the Hallowell Band performs on the lawn of the Memorial Library in the center of Boothbay Harbor. Bring your own chair and find a spot on the lawn to enjoy the music. It's Maine, so bring a blanket too if it's chilly! The band always begins with the National Anthem and ends with God Bless America. In between, they play an assortment of Sousa marches, old favorites, and Broadway show tunes. During the marches, the children line up for their chance to conduct the band. Sometimes the very famous Brud, of Brud's hot dogs, will accompany the band on the spoons. Brud is over 90-years-old. His hot dog cart has been parked on the corner across from the...Read More

Quote:
A two hour trip on a sailing schooner is one of the most peaceful things you can do. Appledore cruises will take you from Pier 6 in Boothbay Harbor, out through the harbor, past Ocean Point, and around Ram Island. The gentle rocking of the boat and the complete silence will lull you into a relaxed state. The crew gives you the history of the boat, which might have been built in Boothbay or East Boothbay at the turn of the century. They'll explain what you are passing by. It will give you a glimpse of places you'll want to go that you might not otherwise have found - such as Ocean Point in East Boothbay. You'll pass Burnt Island light, see Cuckhold Light in the distance, and go very close to Ram ...Read More
