Best things we did: Snorkeling at Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Beach with the sea turtles. Walking on hot lava at Volcanoes National Park--bring a good flashlight so you can stay after dark. Hiking to Green Sands Beach and in Waipio Valley Quick Tips: It is very windy in Waikoloa, where we stayed. It is hard to sit on the beach--you get sandblasted. But swimming was fine. Our favorite beaches were Mauna Kea--great snorkeling, moderate waves, and Hapuna Beach during the week (it was too crowded on the weekend). We decided to get a cheap room in HILO rather than drive back to the Kona side of island after visiting Volcanoes N.P. We had a very basic room with 4 twin beds, a refrigerator and a small bathroom. It was raining which made it very humid in the room. We could not close the windows and run the A/C as they didn't shut properly, but it was better than camping in the rain.

Best Things Nearby:Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea BeachBest Things About the Resort:Lots of space and well-equipped. Golf course. Grocery store is walking distance. Internet availability in office for checking email. Resort Experience:Our 2 bedroom unit had a king master bedroom, upstairs, with a balcony overlooking the golf course, a 2nd bedroom on the 2nd floor with 2 twins and a bathroom. There was a 3rd bathroom on the main floor. There was a tv in each bedroom and a large tv with a VCR in the "family room."
