Clearwater Beach - not just an ordinary beach

Overview

Our most memorable moment was at a Sunset at Pier 60 with a salute to Jimmy Buffett. I had never seen as many Parrotheads outside of a real Jimmy Buffett concert.

If you are looking for a great place to eat some good seafood and catch a sunset then this is the place. The owners of Julie's have converted an old Florida 'Cracker' house into a unique place to dine. There is outside dining, although in the summertime, it is best to eat inside.

This is a weekly in the summer Key West type festival featuring artists, craftsmen and performers of all kinds.
The Friday night we attended was a salute to Jimmy Buffett that seemed to bring out Parrotheads from all over the Tampa Bay area.

This is truly an attraction that is fun for all ages. From the first time I saw the pirate ship at the marina in Clearwater Beach I knew I had to ride.

Several different cruises are offered - two daytime cruises at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and champagne cruises in the late afternoon during the summer months and a sunset cruise, which takes place all year round. No matter which cruise you take, complimentary beverages are served and light snacks are available for purchase.

While there is no comparing this aquarium with the Florida Aquarium in downtown Tampa, it offers a view of sealife without having to fight traffic on the drive to Tampa. The non-profit facility is not entertaining but also educational and you are guaranteed to come away with new knowledge about some facet of sea life.

This is actually two cruises in one with the first part being a narrated tour of the Clearwater area with the second part being a throttle open, wave jumping ride through the Gulf of Mexico. If you can't get to Busch Gardens to ride the roller coasters then this is the next best thing. Also be sure and wear either casual clothing or swimsuits. It is a sure bet you will get wet.
