We arrived in Chiang Mai exhausted and excited, and the excitement just continued. It was a brilliant place for a family holiday. We loved every minute of the exotic temples, the yummy food, the friendly Thai people, and the rolling hills around the town. The kids particularly enjoyed the bustling night market where you can bargain for loads of goods, clothes, ornaments etc. It was really fun. From there we hired a car and driver to take us to the hill tribes near Mae Hong Son. The scenery up there was spectacular.

The Lai Thai Hotel was excellent, cheap, and comfortable. The staff was friendly.

The rooms have air conditioners and there were lovely statues of elephants all around. There's a swimming pool and a good restaurant in the hotel too. You can get massages and book tours to other places.

The hotel's location was very convenient for the town and night market.

It was incredible to see the women of the Long Neck Tribes in their village near the Burmese border. These women wear metal rings around their necks and on their legs, one for each year of their lives until they marry.

These people make all kinds of artifacts too.

We went during the monsoon season and we were the only tourists in the village.
