Overview

The stag party for the wedding which never was. Nevermind, we had a fantastic time anyway. 4 great nights in the vibrant city of San Juan with no plans other than to have fun. The highlight was the San Sebastian festival. Four nights of dancing in the street, latin rhythms, and copious amounts of rum.

Hotel

San Juan is not cheap as far as accommodation is concerned. Rooms in El Canario were fairly basic but comfortable with ensuite bathroom and balcony for 90 USD a night. Located in the heart of the Condado district where a whole host of bars and restaurants can be found. No complaints although front desk staff weren't particularly amused with us rolling in at 4 a.m. every morning.

Attraction

Bar/disco/restaurant with ear-splitting salsa-pop. From the Wyndham we asked the taxi driver to take us somewhere with loud music and a big crowd. Shots is where he took us. I think we were the only tourists in there but when we arrived at 2 a.m. it was absolutely jam-packed and remained so until about 6 a.m. It was great fun and a good place to meet the locals.

Reportedly the most exclusive hotel on the island. I certainly felt very underdressed here in shirt and jeans. Although there was no problem getting into the casino, I was refused entry into the on-site nightclub. The casino was huge and packed with both tourists and affluent locals. Don't come here if on a budget!

Festival San SebastianBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Held in San Juan for a whole week in mid January, it is a mix of semi-religious processions, music, crafts and a massive street party. We didn't even realise that this festival was on until we headed into Old San Juan on our first night. The old cobbled streets were jammed with locals, mostly aged between 15 and 25. The music was loud with infectious latin beats, everyone was friendly, and the ladies were stunning! With Cubalibres flowing freely we danced and sang the night away hopping from bar to bar until the early hours.
