Las Vegas is all about adults having fun. Yes, there are things for kids to do, such as the Adventuredome at Circus Circus, but make no mistake: they don't call Vegas "Sin City" for nothing. You don't have to be a gambler to enjoy Vegas, either, because in recent years, Vegas hotels have invested heavily in creating shopping malls such as the Forums at Caesar's Palace, the Desert Passage at the Aladdin, and the Canal Shops at the Venetian. Additionally, most of the major Strip hotels have their own in-house spa. Must-see's: A perpetual favorite is the "water ballets" of the Bellagio. In fact, the Bellagio as a whole should not be missed for its gorgeous architecture and features such as i...Read More

Hotel | "Las Vegas Hilton"

On this trip to Vegas, we were attending a convention that was being hosted at the Las Vegas Hilton. As a convention rate of $109 was available, we took advantage of that and spent 3 nights at the Hilton. The Las Vegas Hilton is off the NE end of the Strip, next to the convention center. It is a rather large place (as most hotels in Vegas are) and consists of 3 main wings off a central spoke, with their own convention space on the south side of the property. The hotel is HUGE, however, and it would take us nearly five minutes to walk downstairs to the lobby and reach the convention area. A smaller building on the property has an overflow of rooms. This is a good property if you are in town for ...Read More

My first stay at Circus Circus was two years ago. I had a couple days' stay planned in Vegas before going on to Lake Tahoe, and I was trying to conserve lodging funds. I found a super deal for Circus on the internet - $54/night (Travelocity) - and figured the cost was worth being a little further north along the Strip. At that time, Circus Circus was finishing multi-million dollar rennovations to the hotel, casino and shops. I found the rooms to be clean, well-maintained, and spacious, with brand-new bedclothes, carpeting, etc. We had a tower room with a great view west to the mountains. So on my next trip to Vegas, I did not hesitate to book a night's accommodations here, once again finding a $...Read More

Hotel | "The Bellagio"

You don't need to be a guest of the Bellagio to partake of its sumptuousness, but to fully enjoy it--go ahead, indulge! I have stayed in many hotels around the world, but the Bellagio has become one of my all-time favorites. From the moment we stepped out at the valet parking under the entry portico, I thought, "I could get used to this." The discreet, refined staff greet you as you sail into the beautiful lobby with the unique ceiling chandelier called "Fiori di Como," made up Dale Chihuly glass flowers. Straight ahead are the conservatory and botanical gardens, where hundreds of bright silk butterflies sail among the well-tended flowers. Colors are subtle, natural - browns, greens,...Read More

I had been looking forward to the Sahara - a bit of that Vegas nostalgia from the pre-Wynn days, I suppose - but found the hotel to be a bit disappointing to my expectations, especially after their website made it look really nice. The Sahara website guarantees their lowest rates, so I booked via their site. First, you cannot choose your room type (and thus, prices) until you already entered your credit card. Secondly, I paid the "+$10 extra" for the Deluxe room, and frankly, I'm not sure what we "got" for that. We had a rental car, so when we approached the Sahara from the main part of the Strip and saw Valet/check-in signs, we pulled in unde...Read More

The original Aladdin, where Elvis and Priscilla took their wedding vows in 1967, was imploded in 1998 and rebuilt at the same spot. The new 34-acre Aladdin Resort & Casino includes the Desert Passage shopping center, 14 restaurants, 3 nightclubs, 2 pools and more. For my April 2004 Vegas trip, I wanted at least one indulgent night mid-Strip, so I booked a Deluxe room (Aladdin's cheapest) through their website. Choosing the Aladdin turned out to be one of my best choices ever for accommodations. The Aladdin's registration entrance is entered via the underground valet area. The very pleasant staff makes you feel immediately welcome. To my...Read More

I'm a foodie. I love cooking, baking. I love eating (as evidenced by my pants size) and I love restaurants. I've done waitstaff and hostessing and bartending. And I travel a lot, so I have been to many wonderful restaurants in many interesting locations and at times eaten food that I am glad I didn't know what I was eating. The first time I ever moaned aloud -- not just "mmm" but "ohhhh mmm!!" -- was at Emeril's at Universal Citywalk in Orlando. Since then I've tried Emeril's NOLA in New Orleans (delish!) and Emeril's Fishhouse in Las Vegas, but on a recent return trip to Vegas, we went to Emeril's Delmonico Steakhouse (the original is in New Orleans). I am firmly a carnivore. Steak? ...Read More
