The Big Easy

An April 2003 trip to New Orleans by member98

I had won roundtrip air tickets and chose New Orleans for a mini-vacation because I had never visited the city before. It turned out to be a great choice.

Hotel | "Sheraton New Orleans Hotel"

This hotel just completed a huge renovation. The room was richly furnished with wood cabinets and desk and pictures of the St. Charles streetcar and iron railings prevalent to New Orleans. The window covering were wood shutters which were perfect to shut out the morning light, especially if you've had a late night. And the pillows - so soft and nice! Not sure if the hotel was not fully occupied or if they really soundproofed the place, but it was nice and quiet. The hotel is conveniently located on Canal, within walking distance to all the major attractions - Bourbon St., the Riverwalk, Harrah's Casino, and the stop for the St. Charles streetcar.

Restaurant

The restaurant is part of the Brennan family and had great reviews. We were not disappointed. We already had appetizers at our hotel, so we only ordered a main course. I ordered the special Gulf fish, which was drum fish on a crawfish cake - it was delectable. The mahi mahi was also good but when in New Orleans, seems like redfish (or drum fish) is the thing to order. The food came out on hot plates too, which is important to us.

The wait staff was very friendly and professional. We did not make reservations but it was a Monday night, so I would recommend reservations if going on a Saturday night.
