Milton was wrong: Paradise Found

An April 2003 trip to La Angostura by pato965

Perhaps one of the best kept secrets in the world, Villa La Angostura lies amidst more than 120 different types of trees, the largest lake in South America, excellent secluded hotels, and savory food.

There´s everyhting to do: trekking, mountain biking, sightseeing, and in winter skiing. Don´t miss the "Route of the 7 lakes", 150 miles with breathtaking views of one of the most unspoiled paradises that still exist.

Another must is a trip to the Arrayanes Forest, a unique kind of tree (there only can be found here and in Japan) that's cinnamon in color that stands more than 50 feet tall and are more than 500 years old. You get there after a 45 minute trip over the Nahuel Huapi Lake.

Quick Tips:

Stay in Puerto Manzano, 10 minutes away of Villa La Angostura (9,000 inhabitants). There's secluded, petite boutique hotels (not more than 20 rooms with personalized services) and stroll down the area. Each curb is a new, incredible site with the magnificent lake as the background.

Best Way To Get Around:

Arrange transportation from Bariloche Airport (50 miles away). You can rent a car, but roads are slippery, especially when it rains (2500mm a year).

Arrange your own excursions, have a taxi called to your hotel, and let the drive be your guide; they are more than friendly and are proud of their land.
