The biggest highlight for me visiting Malta was the fact if I had not gone for a walk on that fateful day, I would never have bumped into the Club Riza representative and would not be here writing this journal.
Malta for me is the perfect retreat -- the weather is always good, the people so friendly (where else would you see elderly people walking the streets at midnight), you always feel safe and welcomed by everyone, standards in Malta are second to none as far as the Mediterranean is concerned. The place has so much culture and sightseeing is a must. When visiting Malta, no journey would be complete without going to Gozo and Comino, such huge differences in culture and attitude to sister island Malta (people still actually leave their front doors open -- it's that safe). From Bustling town centres to quiet harbours, there is something to attract everyone at Malta.
Quick Tips:
Malta is best visited from April onwards. Then the weather is almost guaranteed, although the days are still quiet short. Qawra is heaven for the person looking for that perfect getaway. Sliema is more lively with its very atrract sea front promenade, and Gozo and Comino a must, as is Popeye's village.
Best Way To Get Around:
Walking is the best way to see local areas as Qawra is not hilly at all. You will always feel safe walking in Malta. Buses are not for the faint-hearted, but the service is very regular and extremely cheap. Taxis are very reasonably-priced and the roads are generally good. Car hire is not the cheapest in Europe, but still cheaper than the UK. Try to avoid the usual tourist trappings of coach trips and excursions and venture out on your own.
