Vacation Village at Weston

An April 2003 trip to Weston by dalefried

Quote: I visited Vacation Village at Weston. The resort is very pretty, but it is 25 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale Beach, and 45 minutes from South Beach. That is where all the fun is, so at night we would drive to either location. In the future I would rather stay at the beach locations.

Best Things Nearby:Everglades Holiday Park. You get a 40% discount with a card they give you. You can also get discounts at restaurants with the card. Sawgrass Mills Outlet. Weston Town Center. Swigs Bartini and Bistro. I would have recommended this timeshare higher, but it is so far away from the beach. Normally, I don't need a beach, but the best nightlife was there. We went to Ft. Lauderdale Beach and South Beach every night which was quite a distance away.Best Things About the Resort:They gave us free pancake breakfasts on Monday and Tuesday mornings. On Wednesday, free Bingo games with prizes at the pool, free local calls, and the best thing was free email access so you ca...Read More

This club is less than 10 minutes away from the resort. We arrived on a Saturday night around 8pm. There were four in our group, and we were seated immediately. We had our choice of eating inside or outside. We chose inside because we wanted to dance. The waiter arrived immediately, and service was good. My husband and I ordered an Asian noodle dish which was so tasty. Our friends really enjoyed their meal also. The background music was perfect so that you could have conversation. There were also sporting events on the TVs, so you could watch TV also. There was a big bar if you came for cocktails. At 9pm, the DJ starting playing music, beginning with classic disco and ending with today's music. People...Read More

Cafe del Mar

Restaurant

Quote:
We had many restaurants to choose from on Ft. Lauderdale Beach Blvd., but we chose this restaurant for two reasons: 1) Live Entertainment and 2) The maitre d', Arturo, is so friendly and fun. The food wasn't bad either. We sat outside, and the band was so great. They played Motown music and my friends and I couldn't stop dancing in our chairs. My friends enjoyed their meal too.

Sloppy Joe's

Restaurant

Quote:
I loved this place. It is in a dining and entertainment complex called Beach Place. I ordered a Caesar Salad and Vegetable Quesadilla. Both were so reasonably priced that I though the portions would be small. The salad was only $3.95 and the Quesadillas were $6.95. When the waitress brought over these humungous dishes, I told her to bring a doggie bag immediately. I took so much food home. By the way, it was quite delicious too! My husband ordered a veggie burger, a side order of yellow rice and vegetable kabobs, and he really enjoyed his meal also. He helped me eat the veggie quesadillas the next day for lunch! We sat outside and there were two guitar players playing contemporary music inside. We coul...Read More

Howl at the Moon

Attraction

Quote:
The Howl at the Moon Saloon is part of Sloppy Joe's restaurant, but there is a separate entrance. There is no cover charge and the drinks are reasonably priced. You can't have dinner there, only bar food like chicken wings, etc. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday nights. It is a dualing piano bar. There are three guys who rotate every half hour so that there is always continuous music. They take song requests from the audience. There isn't dancing, but that didn't matter to us, we got up to dance anyway. The piano players were very talented and everyone was there to have a good time. And we did!

Everglades Holiday Park

Attraction | "Holiday Everglades Park"

Quote:
This location is less than 15 minutes away from the resort. When we got out of our car, a peacock came running toward me so fast that I got a little scared that he was going to attack me. He didn't at all; I think he was hoping that I had food. A family that was leaving handed me half a loaf of bread. I became the most popular tourist in the place! More peacocks and birds came running. Airboat tours run every 20 minutes. The Tour costs $10/pp. With the Discount White Card that the resort gives you when you arrive, the cost is $7.50/pp. It is worth $7.50, but not more. First the airboat takes you to a separate island. There's a guy there (missing two fingers!) straddling a real alligator, opening it...Read More

Sawgrass Mills Mall

Attraction | "Sawgrass Mills Outlet"

Quote:
Every outlet you ever heard of and more is located here at the Sawgrass Mills Outlet. There are stores that I can't find in NY here. There is a Burlington House outlet, Kirklands - I could go on and on. I was exhausted and I didn't get a chance to look in every store. We hadn't bought souvenirs and we were desperate. What do you buy for a 15-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man? We had almost given up. We were tired and hungry and there were still a million stores to go into. We decided to go to the Oasis to eat dinner. The Oasis is a wing of the mall with a big movie complex, restaurants, and entertainment venues. We ate dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. There were cool t-shirts on display in front. We ...Read More

Shelborne Hotel Karaoke Bar

Attraction | "Shelbourne Hotel Karaoke Bar"

Quote:
We were told that there is Karaoke every night at the Shelbourne Hotel. The bar is downstairs and there is a separate entrance from the street. We arrived at 9:30pm and were forced to sit outside because they open at 10pm. They let us in 10 minutes early because the owner felt bad for us. The Shelbourne Hotel is a famous hotel in Miami Beach, but this lounge was funny. The vinyl cushions are torn and there are drink rings on the tables. On the walls are pictures of famous people with the owner of the bar. I mean really famous people - The Temptations, The Supremes, Gladys Knight, Wayne Newton. I thought maybe this was a great place in the 60s and 70s, but then I saw a picture of the American Idols,...Read More

Weston Town Center

Story/Tip

Quote:
The Weston Town Center is about 10 minutes from Vacation Village at Weston on Bonaventure Blvd. It has loads of restaurants and on Friday nights they show a movie in the plaza. There is an Italian restaurant that was recommended by the Weston security guard. There is a Publix grocery store there that has anything you need. Swigs Bartini and Bistro was there, and our friends bought delicious popcorn in the Popcorn store. The Weston Deli is there and you get a 10% discount if you present your Membership card that the resort gives you when you arrive. If we had more time, we would have spent more time there.
