November at the Samoset

A December 2002 trip to Rockport by Guide Shawn

Quote: For our honeymoon we visited the Samoset Resort. We arrived at night, and it looked pleasant. In the morning we opened the drapes and saw the view of a life time, with the sun rising on a fire red horizon, past the golf course, across the Penobscott Bay.

Overview

Shopping is great in the area. There is a large Walmart by the resort, and plenty of smaller stores. There are plenty of restaurants arount the resort, with three right on site. The resort features a five-star rate restaurant called Marcels. What a treat - a little expensive but well worth it. There is a movie theater close by and just half an hour away you can go to Portland and hit the outlet shops.Quick Tips: About a mile out in the Penobscott Bay there is a light house. It is at the end of a man-made granite walk way. It was a little chilly walking out there in the late fall, but well worth the trip. It's just like a home away from home. You will have a nice size bedroom, with a queen size bed. There will be a separate room with the shower and the toilet, then just outside that room was the sink so you could shave or brush your teeth without tieing up the shower. From the living room you can walk into the partial kitchen. It is rated partial, but all it is missing is two burners on the stove to be complete. It has a small fridge, small stove, a convection/microwave oven, and a dishwasher. There is a ton of storage and all kinds of room for f...Read More

Marcels at the Samoset. Walking in you know you're in for a treat. The Matride will greet you formally from your reservation and seat you. You will be served fresh gourmet bread to start. Your menu will be limited to a small selection of specialized items. We had a Ceasar salad prepared table side, then a top serloin oven-baked, and then grilled table side with julian veggies. It was by far one of the most satisfying experiences I have ever had. For dessert we had a piece of fresh baked pumpkin cheesecake. What an amazing experience.

This place is a must do again.
