Juneau is one of the most expensive places to live or visit and is accessible only by air or water. The median income is ,000, with the highest Internet usage per capita in the nation. The quality of life for the people here is pretty decent in a conservative, Republican, and effectively Anglo state. Juneau has beautiful natural scenery: Mendenhall Glacier, which is slowly receding, surrounded by mountains and filled with a temperate-climate rain forest; lots of wonderful water views; the city and the state museums; the salmon hatchery; and the Tracy Arm boat tour. Perseverance Theatre has play performances throughout the year.
There's hiking, snow skiing, fishing, kayaking, helicopter tours, and glacier- or whale-watching tours.
