Overview

Old Sacramento, Convention Center, the State Capitol, Railroad Museum, Sutter's Fort, Crocker Art Museum, Town Ford Museum, Discovery Museum, Fairytale Town, and the zoo.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

The Amtrak station is in old Sacramento. Driving is best, and the public tram or the bus is next best thing.

Residence Inn by Marriott Sacramento Airport NatomasBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Marriott Residence Inn"

We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn in a very nice and spacious room. Our room had a kitchenette and a dataport phone, and some come with a fireplace and there is an optional high speed dataport for an additional $10 a day.

There was a fitness center, with volleyball/basketball courts, an outside barbecue, and an outdoor swimming pool, but no treadmills. The hotel did not charge for local calls and there was a breakfast buffet included in the price of the room (one night, I went to Safeway and bought some frozen strawberries and canned whipped cream to put on the waffles the next morning). There were complimentary drinks and bar food at happy hour and a complimentary shuttle to and from downtown including Amtrak and the airport, available from 7am until 10pm. I suggest you call the desk to book your shuttle ahead of time.

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant was recommended to me. There was plenty of parking once I found the place.

There's white-tablecloth service in this clean and light restaurant. I didn't try their specialty -- seafood -- instead, I ordered short ribs with pepper sauce. My meal was good, but I've tasted better in Oakland.

They offer lunch specials Mon-Sat 11am-2:30pm, and there are set family dinners for two or more people that are under $10. There are also economical rice plates available for around $5. The seafood is expensive, with shark fin soup at $25 and abalone with sea cucumber at $25.

Open daily 11am-midnight.

The Bread StoreBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The Bread Store sells freshly baked bread, sandwiches, salads, drinks -- it's mainly for the lunch crowd. Queue up in line, place your order, pay, and then wait for your order to be ready. I ordered myself a half sandwich and salad combination and found myself a table to eat at. Everything was very casual.

Teriyaki To GoBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Teriyaki To Go is Japanese fast food. Their chicken teriyaki over rice has a good tasting and not overly sweet sauce. You queue up in line, place your order, pay, and wait about 10 minutes for your order to be ready. You can dine in or take away. The atmosphere is clean.

New Lu-Shan Chinese Buffet & RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "New Lu-Shan Chinese Buffet & Restaurant"

The buffet food at New Lu-Shan Chinese Buffet & Restaurant is only fair. It's not the best Chinese buffet I've come across. With any deep fried foods, strip off the batter coating, as it's just filler, but what's left isn't really that good either. Still, if you yearn for Chinese food in large quantities at a fixed price, it'll do.

California FatsBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "California Fat's"

California Fat's is a large trendy restaurant nicely decorated with a large waterfall in the lower level. I ordered roasted duck with raspberry sauce and it was quite tasty, but I got only one leg and the bill came to almost $20. Granted, the atmosphere is very nice.

The name has changed since the place got new owners. In the 1970s, it was called China Moon Café and featured an older Cantonese cuisine. Now, the food is Vietnamese and Chinese, and very good -- you'll get a good value for lunch. Lunch specials 11am-3pm. It's located in Old Sacramento near the Amtrak train station.

Free delivery $15 minimum, party facility available.

Open Sun-Thur 11am-9pm, Fri-Sat 11am-9:30pm.

Park Plaza Cafe TheBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "The Park Plaza Cafe"

The Park Plaza Cafe serves American and Ukrainian cuisine, serving items such as borscht, stuffed cabbage rolls, beef stroganoff, schnitzel, and pirogis. Soup or salad along with homemade bread completes the meal. The croutons are homemade as their salad dressings.

It's a no-nonsense atmosphere and very utilitarian. The food is good, plentiful, and satisfying. If you're in downtown Sacramento during the week in the daytime, give this place a try for something a little different. It's having a taste of a different culture -- not just their food, but their atmosphere.
