This was our first time in Mexico. Had heard some negative things about this resort because of all the construction. It was wonderful!!

The staff was very helpful when it came to setting up day trips, etc. We went to Isla Mujeres for a day of snorkeling. The tour the staff sent us to was great. The boat over was one big party, and it never stopped! I had never snorkled before, and they really took the time to teach me. Best thing I ever did.

At the Tumtah restaurant on the grounds of the resort there are mariachi singers every night during dinner. The food there is amazing. We had everything from pizza to seafood. Prices were reasonable. Also took a day trip to Chichen Itza. DO NOT miss this! It was worth the day trip we took.

Quick Tips:

If you are interested in seeing any sights, get a car. The resort is about 45 minutes from the Hotel District in Cancun. There are buses that will pick you up at the Mayan Palace gates, but I felt you were then stuck with their schedule. The car was less that for a week. When you check in, try to get a building close to the pool. We had about a 10 minute walk to the pool. For us that was not a problem, but could be for some.

Best Way To Get Around:

Again, I would suggest getting a car if you don't want to stay right at the resort. Although, the next time we go, that's probably just what we will do. This place is beautiful, the staff is great, food is good. For us, there will be no reason to leave!

Best Things Nearby:
Don't want to make this sound negative, but the best thing nearby was the ice machine! There is only one per building, and it was right next to our room. Seriously, Xcaret and Xel Ha are both with 15 minutes of the resort.

Best Things About the Resort:
The pool! It is huge. There is even an area where lounge chairs are set up in a shallow end so you can sit and read! Even though we were there during spring break, we never felt crowded by too many people. The rooms are also very nice. We had a one bedroom. The only drawback is the way things are laid out. There are NO views of the ocean. I think that's pretty strange, but that's just me. We really liked this resort. It will be amazing once it is complete.

Resort Experience:
It's hard to explain such a huge place. The buffet we had one night was nothing to brag about, the other meals we had were great. Service is wonderful, everyone does whatever they can to make you feel pampered. They are adding a water park, which should be finished in a year, and the Jack Nicklaus golf course should be done by June of this year. We really loved it. We don't like being in huge crowds, so this was just right for us.

Tumtah Restaurant

The Tumtah Restaurant on the ground of the Mayan is truly wonderful. You can eat on the patio by the water or inside under the teepee-like ceiling. We had the seafood pizza one night. It was great! Don't miss the grilled shrimp or the wood-smoked marinated chicked. Prices ranged from about US$14 to about US$24 for a steak. Drinks were average priced. They have wonder mariachi singers every night. The poolside restaurant serves lunch every day. I thought they were more expensive than Tumtah. The Mexican buffet they had one night was not planned very well and the food there was nothing to brag about, but the show they put on was GREAT!! All in all, the Tumtah was one of the best places we ate at all week.
