Quote: We spent a week in King's Beach on the northern shore of the beautiful Lake Tahoe, CA. We went skiing, drove around and enjoyed the beautiful nature and made several trips to surrounding areas in California and Nevada.

Very neat cabin-like accommodations. We had a studio for a week and it was very cozy with everything you can imagine for a week in mountains. The studio did not include in-unit washer/dryer - there's a small central laundry room. Not sure about the one or two bedroom units. The resort staff was very friendly and tried to organize a lot of activities. The participation was quite poor though, mostly because everybody was trying to be out on slopes early and spend the whole day there. There's an outside unheated pool that we did not use (guess why) and also an outide heated whirlpool, which we did use and enjoyed. The resort is right on the shore with beach access, which can re...Read More

Lanza's is just across the street from the Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge. Reservations recommended but not necessary, even though rush hour can be quite busy. Bar available while you wait to be seated. Good value for price paid. In winter season open only for dinners. Click here for more details.

Locals recommended this mountain to us over the more famous resorts. We were glad we listened. We went there on Tuesday when they run "2fer Tuesdays" (see http://www.skirose.com/tickets/tickets.php for other specials). The slopes and the lifts were almost empty. There was really zero wait time, just skiing and fun, and it is the highest mountain there that you get to ski all the way from the top (9700 feet). That allowed for some great natural snow with more than enough base despite the lack of snowfall at that time. Being it's the highest peak around the lake, the view was really great - and it comes with every lift ride to ...Read More

Having Lake Tahoe as our base, we decided to drive east to Nevada to take a look at a real desert, and it proved to be more than worth it. We drove by The Pyramid Lake and saw The Black Rock Desert. People usually imagine deserts as completely boring places, but it's not so when it's filled with mountains and when sun reflects in different colors from different directions. I was glad we went for this trip!

Driving around Lake Tahoe is very enjoyable. In the three weeks that we spent in Tahoe Vista, we made the trip around three times. The lake looks great and the surrounding peaks are breathtaking! There are plenty of opportunities for hiking too - The Rubicon Trail, Trail to Vikingsholm in Emerald Bay, just to name a few.
